Analog Delay power puzzle

I was using my Analog delay on a session tonight and noticed it wasn't behaving normally. I couldn't get it to do more than a few repeats and it just sounded kind of dull. On a whim, I changed power supplies with the one that was plugged into my Ring Modulator. All of the normal sounds from the delay came back.

The weird part: the power supply that worked better is rated at 9V, 200 mA. The one that didn't work with the delay is Moog-branded and rated at 9V, 500 mA. Any idea what the deal is?

Perhaps one was regulated?

Or maybe one is wearing out...

Sometimes I have a pedal or CV plugged in somewhere and forget about it, and then I get 'erratic' behaviour on the front panel.

It turns out it isn't working correctly with any of my Moog power supplies (I have a few of the 500 mA power supplies). I can't get it to do more than 12 repeats. Bummer. I guess it is broken. Not a good sign for a pedal that has seen only home use and one session since I got it a few months ago.

After playing around with it some more, it looks like the problem is intermittent. Sometimes when it powers up it will work normally, sometimes it won't. I'll talk to Moog tomorrow and see what I need to do.

I had to get mine serviced for an intermittant issue as well..

I called Moog and spoke with a tech, got an RMA number, and sent it back this morning. Excellent customer service so far.

That actually sounds like exactly what is happening to one of my SDs. I guess because it was intermittent the NZ techs that Moog recommended didn't understand the problem yet they 'fixed' it, still happens.

When you get it back post an update as to if they fixed the problem or not.

Seems I'm having performance issues with different Moog-related power supplies and the 104-SD too. I've had the issue of the echo function shutting off until the unit is cycled off/on but this morning is the first time I noticed the intermittant problem described above. Swapping power supplies for now seems like it's working out, but for a while I was thinking I was gonna need an RMA too!

Another thing I just noticed (for the first time DOH!) is if the loop is set to "external" I just get a single repeat with no devices plugged into the loop. Switch back to internal and presto!

But yeah, it is definately having some kind of issue with the feedback function cutting out intermittantly.

What is your reading on it via a scope/multimeter? Output voltages? Noise on the scope? Can you test it a little more and see how much current you can pull from it easily?

That would help a lot.

Sorry for the slow follow-up. I returned the pedal to Moog and they got it back to me very quickly. I think I remember that they replaced the chip and touched up some solder joints. It has worked fine since I got it back.

I think my 104sd is doing the same sort of thing but it also seems like it sometimes gets loops "stuck" where even if i turn it off and unplug it when i turn it back on the old loop is still going!

when you guys had yours fixed from moog was it under warranty? im just wondering how much it's going to cost me to get fixed.

Your problem sounds strange to me. Give Moog a call. They've been very helpful when I've talked to them.

My repairs have been under warranty so far, though I do pay shipping to get the delay back to Moog. With insurance, it ends up being about $20 each trip. I talked to Amos last week and he thinks he knows what is going wrong, so I'm hoping this will be the last trip the delay needs to take.
