Voyager w/ VX-351
Voyager w/ VX-351
If you have the Voyager and a VX-351, will the following setup work? Plug the audio output of another keyboard into the Voyager external audio in. Plug the midi output of that external keyboard into the Voyager midi in. Turn off all internal Voyager sound sources and modulation routings. Turn the VCA's full up. Turn filters to dual lowpass mode, with no resonance. Route a cv output from the VX-351 to the Voyager FILTER input to control cutoff. With this setup, do the Voyager filters track the external keyboard? That is to say, do the higher notes sound progressively brighter and the lower notes more muted (as compared to how the external audio would sound NOT playing through the Moog)?
yup, it will do this from a midi keyboard without the vx-351 no problem,
just crank the 'KB Cont Amount' to full and have fun.
I would also recommend taking it a step further by using the filter EG on the voyager instead of the fitler EG on your source keyboard.
The EG will of course be triggered by the midi note on/off events.
If you DID want to do this through the vx-351 you would connect pitch out to an attenuator, then connect the attenuator out to filter in.
You could also pass this through the CP-251's lag processor if you wanted filter glide.

Perhaps I'll try that with other sounds. My main idea is to play my Hammond XK-1 through a Moog filter such that I get the keyboard tracking, without any additional "synth" dynamics. I've heard recordings with B3 "smears" that had a ripping "whah" effect that I've never been able to do with a stock B3. I'm sure filter effects were used. That's my hunch anyway. I was about to get a MF-101 and a MIDI/CV converter. But, since the Voyager is on my Black Friday wish list, I figured I better find out if I can use the Voyager filters to do this.I would also recommend taking it a step further by using the filter EG
Thanks for your input!
