What moogerfoogers for the LP?
Hi!
I'm considering buying 1 or 2 moogerfoogers for my LP.
I bought the CP-251 with my LP so I'd like to put it to good use.
Choosing the proper ones seems like a tough thing.
I know for sure that I don't want the Delay cause I'm happy with my Lexicon MX200 for delays and I don't like the Freqbox from what I've heard on the net, it's to agressive and strange sounding. Getting the Lowpass filter seems pointless.
So I'm down to the Phaser, Ringmod, MuRF.
I think I'll be getting the Ringmod (the cheapest and I can't get this effect from my Lexicon).
So I have two questions.
1. How is the MuRF with the LP? (any users?) - I don't like the idea that the patterns are preset and it sounds nice with a guitar (great gearwire video on youtube), but what about the LP? (could someone post a quick demo?)
2. Is the Phaser really that different from the phaser I can get out of a Lexicon effect or other digital effect box? I know that I get LFO, CV and stuff, but I'll be getting that out of the ring mod anyway, so is the sound really that good?

The MuRF is incredible with the Phatty. I like it better with a synth than a guitar. Don't be concerned about the preprogrammed sequencers. When you start adjusting the sliders and the envelope, the patterns seem to evolve. The sequences are very useful, and there are so many to choose from. You can also use the MuRF without a sequence, and it becomes like a fixed filter bank. Also you can use the second output for "stereo" effects.
If you don't care for the Freq, then the Ring Mod might be a bit too harsh for you. Although it does have an LFO out and can create a nice tremolo effect. I like it alot, but it's forte is wild and harsh sounds.
As to the phaser: It is much more extreme than the Lexicon's. Plus it has an LFO out as well. That's one of the cool things about the Ring Mod and the Phaser: the extra LFO outs. They come in handy expecially if you already have the CP251. Whatever MF you choose, you'll have a really versatile setup.

Personally, I like the MuRF & Analog Delay with my LP.

Bought a Phaser today. Sound nice, nothing stunnig, but I tried it with the SH-201, which isn't exactly THE SYNTH SOUND
. I can't wait to try it with the Phatty + CP-251 for CV modulation fun
Did you know that on the Phasers LFO Amount knob there is a scale 0-10 and on 7 there is a word STUN and on 10 is KILL. Remember the scene from Star Wars: New Hope, when the Storm Troopers capture Leia? ("Set Phasers in STUN"). That's a clever one from Moog.

Oooh... That almost makes the Phaser a must-have then...PHC wrote:Did you know that on the Phasers LFO Amount knob there is a scale 0-10 and on 7 there is a word STUN and on 10 is KILL. Yes. Different galaxies. Different weapon technology.Actually, I think you have to give props to Star Trek - they used that terminology in the original series from the '60s. Star Wars doesn't have phasers - they use laser weapons...

Not to mention different time periods - the future vs. "a long time ago"...MarkM wrote:Yes. Different galaxies. I would really recommend checking out the murf and the freqbox. the freqbox's tracking is so responsive, it basically turns your synth into a whole new animal. i feel that there aren't any good demos of it online, which is a shame. it really does much more than the demos let on. same with the Murf. using it with the phatty takes it to a whole other level. and the "programs" hardly seem like they're pre-programmed. adjusting the sliders and the envelope knob can make your synth sound like something completely new.
and i wouldn't rule out the delay. there's nothing better than that moog delay. the amount of control on it is ridiculous, and i would imagine that with a cdp-251, you'd be in geek heaven.

I have all of the foogers except the bass Murf, and I love them all. The FreqBox is way more versatile than you might expect. Sometimes it does sync, sometimes it drones, sometimes it sounds like a fuzz box, a ring mod, etc. It was the first fooger I got, and I still love it.
I use the delay most of all. It imparts a wonderful quality to anything you run through it.
I ran my Prophet '08se through the phaser on a gig and it was KILLER. Turns any synth string into mega 70's disco strings. Awesome.
The CP-251 is really worth getting into. I have two of them and two delays, and I love them all.

Yeah that is definately a nerd war about to happen.
Its a STAR TREK thing. Star Wars had Blasters. Both the OS and the Next Generation would set their Phasers to Kill if the situation warranted it.
Stuff like the Stun/Kill settings coupled with Moog Inc being related to Bob and making rocket componants makes me really wonder if Bob really knew what Aliens sounded like.
