Anyone for loopable envelopes?

Post by Tangsonghe » Thu Aug 02, 2007 10:01 am

I really love my LP. I love its sound. Makes me want to modulate
modulate modulate.

I have an idea for an extra (free) periodic modulation source. Perhaps
its already been considered, so if anybody knows anything more
I'd be interestd.

I figure that though the envelopes are analogue, they are most
likely to be digitally triggered.......

How about a firmware update that has a mode with an adjustable
periodic trigger on the amplitude and filter envelopes, i.e loopable
envelopes. Yeah you loose the ability to play the keyboard with ADSR
but you gain an extra periodic modulation for weird and interesting
sounds. With computer controlled triggers you could get the periodic trigger
mode to start only when a key is pressed and stop when the key is
released. There are all sorts of options. The trigger rate could be varied
from the digital control dial. I don't know how many of you are familiar with
loopable envelopes but the waveshaping comes from the AD, ADS or ADSR
controls giving triangle, saw and square like waveforms. You could even
have different trigger patterns - doubles, syncopated etc.

Now that I've seen how the programmers at Moog are very good at
changing the firmware to give noise and random modulation I reckon
this is a very natural extension to the Phatty that could prove a big hit,
as it is the equivalent of having 2 LFOs. 1 very flexible (the existing one)
and one for filter and volume. There is a subtlety. I guess the hardware
layout means the filter and volume CVs are triggered from the same source,
so complete independence of the two is probably not possible. But for the
sake of having the option of two periodic modulations this is not important.
It will really expand the sonic pallette of the LP. Even if the trigger rate was
limited by hardware capabilities to 20 Hz it would in my opinion still be worth
doing, residing of course in that nice menu called 'Advanced Preset'.

I made this suggestion in brief to Moog when I registered. Wondered what
LP users would make of this.

Just another hairbrain suggestion from a crazy customer?

Make it synchable by MIDI and gate and its a winner.

that would be great, but to be honest I'd be already happy with a midi clocked LFO with restart cycle on note on.
