MF-101 + CP-251 =

Post by hieronymous » Wed Jul 18, 2007 11:45 pm

So here's a track that I think is pretty representative of one of my approaches to lead bass. Since I've been controlling my Little Phatty with MIDI bass pedals, I can't control the frequency of my low-pass filter, so I've been using the smoothed-out sample-and-hold from the CP-251. Actually, I used the regular S&H at the beginning of the jam, but the recording engineer wasn't quick enough hitting the record button, so you only hear a little bit of it.

Anyway, here it is:

terminous

Same set-up as some of my other posts:
Gibson Melody Maker bass --> Z.Vex Woolly Mammoth fuzz --> MF-101 --> Alembic F-2B preamp

I did have an expression pedal plugged into the LFO of the CP-251 so that I could subtly (or not subtly) adjust the speed at which the S&H would change.

=F'kn awesome!
I love it. I don't know how far Lodi is from SF at the moment, but I would love to jam with you. Im a bass player gone synth nerd.
Awesome playing, man.

Great clip! I really like the sound of your bass, the 101 does wonder with it! Your playing really does wonders to the sound. :D I actually get almost the same sound, but then on guitar.. I play a Fuzz Factory into the 101 :)

Great stuff :)

Thanks for the comments. I was just thinking, next time instead of the Woolly Mammoth and MF-101 I might try it with my Death by Audio Harmonic Transformer and Resonator...

Hieronymous, great track, like everything else that you have posted! I too am a bass player with fooger pedals (101 and 105B) and I am also making some "experimental" and improvisational bass and drum tracks, It sounds like you have the luxury of a live drummer, while I have to use a drum machine (which actually helps some things, as I can sync my 105B to the drum machine through MIDI). I want to get an analog synth, but have been put off by the prices of a Taurus I or II (although the price of a Moog LP with MIDI bass pedals might actually cost more!).

Once again, great stuff! I have downloaded most of your free stuff, and I will now look at iTunes to see what also is available!
MF 102,White MF 103, MF 105B, Minitaur, and an LP Stage II w/ CV Out Mod as well!

Thanks Henfield! I'd like to hear your stuff sometime. I am very luxury to have a live drummer to work with, though he lives on the other side of the country and I only get to record with him once or twice a year. But I've got some stuff in the can that I still haven't used, plus he's thinking of moving out here to the left coast sometime soon.

I don't have anything on iTunes at this point. Someday maybe I'll make an "album" and not give it away for free! In the meantime, download zbq's album! I'm listening to it now - good stuff! I didn't realize he was the guy doing the FreqBox demos...

Thanks hier, I appreciate the complement!

Unfortunately there is no FreqBox on this EP but there will be on the next one. :-)
