FreqBox and Midi-2-CV Converter

I have a Kenton Pro Solo MKII midi-to-cv converter, trying to make it work with the MF107. So far no luck.

Any suggestions, anyone had experience using this configuration?

My question is do I run the CV output of the converter into the FREQ input of the MF017?

According to the specs, the freq input does indeed change the oscillator's frequency. It accepts -5 to +5 volts. I'd assume 1V/oct, just like the rest of the Moog gear. Hope this helps!

The only way to control the amplitude of the FreqBox VCO is with the amplitude of an audio signal applied to the audio input of the FreqBox - it was designed primarily to be used as a processor of sounds. If you have an external VCA - you could control that w/ your gate for triggering notes - run the FB's VCO direct out into your VCA use the gate to turn on and off the VCA.

It may be less than optimum, but if you pad down your Gate signal so it goes 0 to +1.5 V or so, then you will get some kind of output if that signal is applied to the audio input - the rapid change from low to high when the gate goes on will indeed cause the FB's envelope follower to rise as well. It may not be what you're looking for, but it may be good for laughs.

Alternatively you could trigger another audio source (even w/ MIDI) and apply that sound to the FB input. By changing the dynamic shape of the sound you trigger, you'd be changing the dynamic shape of the FB's VCO, and you could use the audio signal as a mod source for the FB's VCO.

You should check out the functional block diagram of the FreqBox in the user's manual on page 16. It should help you understand the inner workings...

I also have the Kenton ProSolo and i've used it to play my MF101 like an oscillator. The way I do it is:

1- Insert the CV out of the Prosolo into the Freq input.
2-Lower the mix knob all the way down
3-Insert the Gate out of the Prosolo into the mix input.

Altough I don't have the MF107, I think this same process should work for you.

I've noticed that when I have the Mix turned all the way up on the MF-107, some of the original source comes through, unlike my other MF's.

Sadly, I don't think this will work with the 107.

It is only possible to use the FreqBox's audio in/out when something is actually playing into it.

The oscillator out is a direct signal, and so is not affected by the mix control, VCA, FM etc..

Perhaps you could "trick" the VCA by inserting a dummy plug into the audio input, shorting the tip and sleeve. But this might be an absolute disaster.

The MF101 doesn't have a Freq Input, should it be Cutoff or Resonance?

I connected the cv to cutoff, the gate to mix and the aux to resonance.

Awesome but it clicks loudly, so I used the lag processor to smooth it out.
