Does anybody know if I can load my TE patches and performance sets into a stage version via midi? This would be really convienient if I could.

Thanks. The situation is that the guitar player of a band I was in bought a TE for me to use. The band has sort of changed genre and I have no interest in their new direction. He wants it back, so I'll buy my own. But I did a lot of programming these last 5 months, so I want to save some time.
I will most likely get the Stage, since I don't care about resale value or wood panels.
Q1 - does the SE have different presets?
Q2 - What's with the asymetrical pitch wheel, is it different?
Q3 - Should I save my presets one at a time so I can pick and choose? I've only really done 20 sounds. I'm using an old mac and sysex480, though that might change. I did the bulk dump when I updated the firmware.

Yes, they have a Bulk Dump Single Preset function. Just download the Manual from the Moog website to tell you how to get there. I would suggest being careful to only Bulk Dump preset data and not global data, as the TE and SE have slightly different operating systems. I'm not quite sure what would happen.
As for the Bulk Dump Single Preset, you'll have to have as many Bulk Dump files as there are presets you want to save. There's no way to select several presets and Bulk Dump those. You can either Bulk Dump one or all.

"bulk dump" is actually a specific command on the master->sysex utilities menu. It sends a sysex file containing all global settings, performance sets AND all 100 presets, in one big (well, not very big actually) file.
"send cur preset" sends just the preset that is currently active. Save this file on your computer using the same name as the patch it represents, and you can send it back to your (or anybody's) LP without overwriting your entire patch bank. When you send a single preset file in to the LP, it automatically overwrites whatever patch is currently active on the LP, with the saved patch from the sysex file. There is no undo for this action, so be sure you have the right patch (the one you want to replace) active on your LP first.
"send all presets" sends all 100 presets as one sysex file. When you send this file back to your LP, it will automatically replace all of the patches in your LP with the 100 patches saved in the sysex file.

Q1 - yes, the Stage edition has 100 all-new presets, different from the Tribute patches. You can download both the Stage and the Tribute banks for free from the Moog website.
Q2 - asymmetrical doesn't refer to the shape of the pitch wheel (it is the same as ever); it means that you can set different ranges for bending up and bending down. So, for example you could set the pitch wheel to bend up a third and down an octave, and play some really interesting solos..
This asymmetrical pitch bend range is a feature on both the Stage and the Tribute editions as long as they are running the latest operating system (currently v1.03).
Q3 - Yeah, I recommend saving each sound one at a time; it's kind of tedious but you do it once and you have them at your disposal. Of course, an editor/librarian would speed things up immensely... but for 20 sounds it's well worth it. Save an "all presets" too just as insurance.
