IS THE ANNIVERSARY WOOD A DYE OR PAINT

hI,

I WAS WANTING TO MAKE THE ENDS ON THE VX-351 AND THE CP-251 THE SAME AS THE 50TH VOYAGER. I THOUGHT IT WAS A DYE BUT NOW I'M WONDERING IF ITS PAINT. I HAVENT SEEN ONE IN REAL LIFE (YET) SO ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

AE wood looks like black paint from what I can tell. I was a ding bat when I intalled the VX-351. I forgot to set the towel down on the back wood when I rested the panel to install the chip. Left two small indentations (exposing the layer underneath the paint) Barely noticeable, but still.
