All this talk about patchbays........

Post by shakti » Mon Apr 09, 2007 7:10 pm

Ok,
So can I get some recommendations for some PBs to use with my MFs. I don't really know much about patchbays other than they connect stuff with ins and outs. But then there are those PBs with switches for normalling, and balancing, etc.

It sounds like I need a 1/4 TRS balanced patchbay. To use all 6 of my MFs and 2 CP251s would I need a 48 point or a 52 point PB?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a quality PB under 150?
What do I need to consider when picking one out?

I've seen the Berinhger stuff, and mr. patchbay's site, and switchcraft.
Thanks,

Try this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patchbay first.

Are you able to count the number of jacks on the back of all your 'foogers? Most people will use the surface of the CP251 for patching, so consider getting the rackmount kit.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I checked out the beringher at musicians friens. I thought I need to use a balance patchbay. Or is it that I just need to use balanced cords?

Mixing on the cp251. Isn't that limited due to the number of ins and outs. I know there is the mixer, but it seems with 6mofos and 2 cps a patchbay would be very useful.

Thanks all.

I just hooked up the ring mod in the delay loop. Holy bleep! That sounds awesome. Just thought id share.

You can use TS or TRS. Either one is fine. Just don't mix TRS and TS on the same patchbay, but you can mix them on the MFs and 251. The only place you may find trouble is using an EP-1. The red jacks on the 251 and any of them on the MFs along with a TS cable or TRS cable without the ring terminal detached will make the EP-1 unusable.

A nice thing about the Behringer PX2000 over the 1000 is that it has selectable switches for each channel (open, paralell, etc.) I use TS cables on 2 PX2000s with 2 251s, a 351, and 101-105 MFs. See other threads for the dummy plugs or just don't plug in cables to those jacks from the MFs and you're good to go.

Thanks Lengai,
Can you use the 351 with the MF series or is it just for the voyager. It seems to have some stuff that the 251 doesn't have.
Thanks,

the vx-351 uses the voyager's power supply to operate, so you'll need a voyager to use it. all of the cv's on it are outputs from various parts of the voyager, sans the attenuators and mults. you can use it with any of the foogers though, yeah.
