Who here uses the analog delay on their guitar?

I've started playing guitar this year.. I shouldn't really be bothering with this stuff as I'm still just learning but I was curious, what does the analog delay really do? Without any clear before > after clips on moog's site, it's pretty vague to me. If any of you are willing, I'd love to here some (as many as possible!) before and after clips of some clean guitar notes and/or chords , full melodies etc. played before and after adding the MF-104Z Analog Delay. Does it sort of.. keep a note sustaining for a second after it's actually stopped coming out of the guitar or what? Would it help you make a thick "wall of sound" with your guitar a la My Bloody Valentine and so on?

Just curious. Thanks for any samples in advance. (Show pictures of your guitars while you're at it!)

I don't have any clips posted anywhere, but I can tell you a bit about the 104.

It can do clean or gritty delay, and with expression pedals can do some interesting things other delays don't do.

Using an exp pedal on the delay time works kinda like a Whammy effect. Lengthening the delay time drops the pitch of the tone being passed.

The time range is from slap somewhere around 40ms to about 1.4 seconds.

You can also use a pedal to control the mix level or the feedback amount. Or an LFO from another Mooger.

Another cool thing is the loop, which has level control knob and int/ext switch for control. You can output your delay signal into another device or devices and mangle it and mix the amount of that into your final delay output.

There's a bit of difference in the sound of digital and analog delays. Analog tends to be a bit darker, with less high-end and quicker high-end rolloff in the delays.

Something I haven't yet tried is running CV signals through my 104SD to create CV delays. I've read about it but haven't messed around with it. Outputting the CV signal through a ring mod through the loop and back should get weird pretty quickly.

Basically, analog delay is one way to get echo. The echo on the guitar (and everything else actually) at the very beginning is delay at its most basic. And when everything cuts out and you only hear a kind of muffled track, that's the band through the delay only without the original signal. The crazier sounds as the song progresses are fooling around with getting the signal to feedback (infinite repeats) and then adjusting the delay time.

These days modeling amps often have cool delay effects built in, along with a bunch of other digital effects (like distortion, reverb, chorus, etc.). I prefer analog myself, but it's expensive, but it sounds great, but you can get a lot more for your money with digital these days...
