Aftertouch still a bit touchy?

Post by Marzzz » Fri Feb 02, 2007 3:14 am

I had the Aftertouch Mod done to my Performer (along with the 3.x upgrade and filter glide), and I still think it is a bit too sensitive, especially compared to other keyboards with a similar keybed (A6, PEK). It is certainly much better than before, but does anyone agree/disagree with me that it would be nice if it was a bit more adjustible, both for local control as well as over MIDI?

I would tend to agree with you that it is definitely more sensitive than my other synths. That is, the actual range of motion required to get full-on seems shorter than my other synths...either that or the curve that the aftertouch parameter uses is steeper. Having said that, I've been able to get used to it more or less and use it on some custom sounds with success.

I still have a voyager anniv. sans the aftertouch fix.
Is it worth the purchase ?
Can you explain to me the advantages, for example in what situations it helps.

thanks

If the aftertouch helps you play better or different depends on your playing style and kind of articulations you prefer on the Voyager. You have the wheels, the touch surface and the pedals in. So many do not miss the aftertouch at all.
Without the aftertouch fix, the either got no modulation or max modulation. Values in between were not reachable.
With the fix, you get what you know from many other synths.
I like to route aftertouch to the filter or the modulation, because sometimes I have no free hand to use the wheel or other ways of changing the sound.

I got the fix and it was easy to install.
keep on turning these Moog knobs

I would agree - the fix (for me) was neccessary. I like using aftertouch for filter/vibrato/etc. I'm used to it and a Voyager without it wasn't appealing to me.
