PLEASE HELP i have a legal question about the moog trademark

Post by themicromoogmassacre » Fri Apr 16, 2004 5:04 pm

hello, my name is wes and i am currently engaged in a musical endeavor based out of the metro detroit area. I play drums in a newly formed black metal band. We have been trying to decide on our name for a month now.

my question is, is it okay to use the word moog in our name? a friend of mine recently was forced to change his bands name by the attorney of the corporation that holds rights to Godzilla. but my band uses moog synthsizers in our songs and it would be great if we could be named after my lifelong childhood art motif,
wich is
The Micro Moog Massacre.

some one help me,
i love music

I suppose its legal. I also suppose that you could still use the name and have no association with Bob Moog. If you were in the UK it would cause problems with the trademark issues.

Do I think Bob Moog is cute. Maybe! :D

Why not just email Moog Music and ask for permission? The Moog Cookbook is a band and they aren't in any trouble with Moog Music. In fact, the guys from The Moog Cookbook are friends of Moog Music and have created presets for the Voyager.

Do I detect a bit of sarcasm? It's always hard to tell via message boards. Either way, I was just trying to help you out so you avoid legal problems later on. My friends had a band named after an old airplane and were issued a very firm cease and desist letter from Lockheed Martin. It's always nice to get permission up front.

oh no man sorry. i wasnt trying to be sarcastic, just being proper. i dont know prolly becuase i thought sense i was talking about a metal band, people werent gonna take me seriously. know what i mean? actually we sound alot like the locust, and band that was mentioned in one of these other topics, the use moogs.

really, our metal is way more sophisticated than that crap on mtv. we know what we are doing as far as note theory. we use messed up time signatures and stuff. 6/8, 7/8, 12/4 5/4 sweet stuff. once we record i will post a link. but, im only 16 and we cant really afford good studio time yet.

also i need to know if this is a good deal or just someone trying to jip me.

cool. it's always hard to tell who's being a wise ass online. glad the advice was helpful. You don't need money for studio time. Find a guy with a computer and protools that wants to gain some more experience. There's probably someone out there willing to work for next to nothing to have some music to work with. Also, that Ebay auction you posted still has almost 6 days to go. It's too soon to tell if it is going to be a rip or not. The seller has 100% positive feedback so that is a good sign that he/she's cool. I personally wouldn't spend more than $300 on a Rogue. There are plenty of other excellent analogs out there in that price range.

hey thanks man. yeah, actually they have a few reallt good voyagers on there, plus they had this bad ass liberation keytair for like 410. i'll prolly go with a rougue, even though my band is called the micromoog massacre.

whats the deal with those anyway? you dont hear much about micromoogs.
