help me achieve this sound.

Post by firstarsbrnwhite » Mon Jul 21, 2003 8:30 pm

- heres a small explanation. I need help tweaking the knobs and sliders on my moog mg1 to create the sound used in the song MY FAVORITE ACCIDENT - by MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK

MP3 of SONG: http://www.epitaph.com/_lib/stream.php? ... p3&id=3677

I know the guy uses a moog mg-1 and have seen him play it, I have the same synth just can't get it to sound near what that song sounds like.... please help me adjust the sliders....heres a close up of my panel. The way it is in the picture is the closest I could get to this sound. Maybe he is layering it with effects? In a video I saw he had a cord also coming out of the trigger input. ANY HELP would be appreciated.

That sound

That's the same sound Reggie uses on "Thanx for stayin" among other killer songs. Try e-mailing Reggie and the full effect on their website about that question, they'll give you some killer settings, I bet. That's so wicked. Rock on. I hope you find those settings. Motion City ROCKS!

MCS sound

Post by daveh873 » Mon Aug 11, 2003 5:25 pm

I was just talking to Jesse (MCS' synth player) yesterday. He doesnt use any kind of external sound mod at all. Anything he plays can be played with just an MG-1. I forgot to bring my patch sheet to copy down some of his stuff, but i pretty much know the patch setting for My Favorite Accident if you want it. Just email me or IM me and i'll help ya out.

If you'll post a link to the song again, I'll see what I can do about figuring out the sound.

in an unrelated note: i was playing my source today (just plugged into the wall and headphones) and if i messed with the cord just right I could pick up a radio station. I'm not electronic-smart but does that make any sense at all

Actually it does. The phenomenon is called Radio Frequency Interference (RFI), and some electronics are suseptible to it. It can be especially bad for people who live near a radio tower, or a location where strong radio signals are present, such as if someong is using a CB radio nearby.

In your case, it sounds like conditions had to be pretty exacting for RFI to be noticed. Probably nothing to be concerned about.
