How to assign different presets to different channels

Post by Razashah5 » Fri Oct 20, 2006 10:08 am

I understand that this is most probably a most basic question, but how can I assign different presets to the 16 different MIDI channels on my SE Voyager? I am running software version 3.2 and would like to have quick access to various sounds by simply selecting the MIDI channel of the Voyager in Cubase.

Many thanks
Raza

You can't do this with the Voyager, as it isn't multi-timbral, i.e. you can only play one sound at a time, as opposed to a number of sounds simultaneously, each assigned to it's own MIDI channel. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Sorry about the lack of clarity, but thats exactly what I want to know how to do.
I would just simply like to know how to set a sound to a MIDI channel. I have gone to the Master Menu>MIDI Channels, but I am not sure how to save a particular preset sound to a channel. There is a MIDI In channel and a MIDI out channel.
For example, if I wanted to set preset sound 54 to MIDI channel 8, what steps would I go through to do that?

Thanks.

THe only way to do that would be to send a cc message. You can only play the one patch on a single midi channel that you have selected.

Okay. I still think we may be talking at cross purposes here...

If all you want to do is get the Voyager and Cubase communicating with each other, then you must set the MIDI in/out of the track you are using in Cubase to 7, shall we say, and do the same with the MIDI in/out on the Voyager. You will then be able to record what you play on the synth into the sequencer, and subsequently play it back.

However...

If you are thinking in terms of assigning 16 different sounds, each to it's own MIDI channel, and getting them all to play different sequences at the same time, the Voyager cannot do this - it simply isn't designed to work that way.

But...

If you wish to set Cubase up, so that when you select various different tracks, you select various different sounds on the Voyager, then this can be achieved using a Program Change control, and should be simple to do. I am not a Cubase user, but Logic Pro allows you to this by clicking a related check box - nothing more to it. I imagine Cubase does something similar. Have a look in the manual.

Hope this clears a few things up!
