Recommendations for a beginner
Recommendations for a beginner
I've been sampling away as a college DJ for some time now, but I really want to start experimenting with Moog equipment and the technology it offers. And recommendations for a beginner to the whole Moog world?

Get your hands on a Voyager!
If you prefer softsynths, check out http://www.arturia.com/en/default.lasso for the minimoog v and moog modular v

By 'Moog equipment', are you referring to the Voyager or Moogerfoogers?
A Voyager will get you the classic sounds of analog synths (Moog bass, Moog lead, sounds effects, etc.) and give you some external processing capability to boot. Great if you can already play a keyboard. Also expensive, but there's nothing else like it. The softsynth idea contributed by Monads (previous post) would get you some exposure to the Minimoog and Moog Modular equipment without the big investment. You can download demos of both at http://www.arturia.com.
Moogerfoogers (Moog's effects pedals) can give you a range of external processing capabilites - this may work better for you coming from a DJ perspective and fit your pocketbook better, too. Check this website for more info, or better yet, go to a music store and check 'em out.
