Thank you for Version 2

Post by Moog Beam » Wed Mar 10, 2004 7:17 am

Hello,
A big "Thank You" to Moog Music for the latest software version. I really like the ability to name patches using the keyboard. All of the other revisions are worthwhile.
Next thing I have to do is get my MMV changed into an aniversary edition.
Bragging...um..."Gear" List:
Satellite(ehem), Memorymoog+, Minimoog Voyager. Juno 106x2, JD800, SH101, Prophecy, Poly800, Trinity Plus, K5000s, MP9500, K5, ESQ1x2, Chroma, Prophet5 3.3, Nord Lead, DX7, PT1, MT65...I can't remember the rest

2.X features

2.0 is great, although I have the feeling that this is what the Voyager OS was originally supposed to be (the "reserved" menu positions in earlier versions are an easy clue).

Next OS features?

I'd like to see larger preset memory with a hierarchy for storing them. The hierarchy might be either a directory structure to the sound bank, or an extra information field to store, sort and browse the preset memory with. I'd like to store bass sounds to bass sound bank, lead sounds to lead sound bank etc.

Mod wheel position should be read when changing a preset.

A master keyboard mode / trigger mode would be nice (overriding the preset option)

Fix the Pressure aftertouch!!!

They got velocity controllable with v2.0 - now to get pressure fixed.

Make filter frequency follow Portamento'd pitch!

Can't very well do a legato dub bass line when the filter moves abruptly while the pitch glides.

It's the only unprofessional feature, in my opinion. (Oh, wait... "if you're really a professional, buy two additional pieces of gear, and patch the lag processor to filter cutoff, thereby using up a modulation source and destination, and still having to adjust it manually when you change portamento rate.")

Thanx For Version 2

Bought my Signature Model back in '01 (S/N 087) but this is the software version that makes it all worthwhile. I can't say much about it yet as I am still exploring the Pot Mapping functions but so far, I am really impressed, this software package finally makes it work like it should. Thank you very much Rudi Linhard. I pity the folks buying '74 vintage minimoogs on ebay for $2800...

But - #1), I agree w/Cruel Hoax, fix the Pressure/Aftertouch!!! It needs to be continuous & not just an on/off switch! Dammit!!!!
#2) MIDI Key Order - I haven't tried it out yet, but will this keyboard send polyphonic note ons? I'd like to use it as a (limited) master keyboard at times
#3) Slightly OT - any chance we could get patch librarian functions (save/load preset) in 2.1? If we're limited to slot 127 that is fine.

I remember hearing that Moog buys these keyboards from a 3rd party and the p-pressure is on/off only. Also the manual at one point specifies that it's on/off only. I don't think it has anything to do w/the software, but I might be wrong.

Also, isn't the MMV already a polyphonic controller?
