Ok...

So I'm going to need quite a bit of help with this. I don't really use my Voyager in a computer system. I have a Mac G3 running OS 9.2 that I use for pretty much the internet and invoicing. No Midi from the computer.

What is the most basic way for me to download the new softwear into the Voyager? And how can I do this in the cheapest way. I use my Voyager for mostly live and analog tape recording projects, and have never really warmed up to interfacing the synth and computer.

Thanks

This is not a hard problem.

Hardware-wise, you need a MIDI interface for your computer. A simple gizmo will cost you less than $40 and can open wonderful new doors. (I'm a horrible example) :-)

Then, for Mac OS 9.2 you need to install OMS 2.3.8.

I have that up on my site, at the bottom of this page:

http://www.RedMoon-Music.com/products/maxWerk/

It comes with instructions to make a MIDI setup document. After you get through this procedure, updating any gear via sysex files will be a breeze.

Then go here:

http://members.home.net/sgrace9/sysex/

..and download the Sysex program--it's a small utility.

Go into its Preferences and tell it

Buffer size 1024
Timeout 1000ms.
% MIDI speed 60
Pause between messages 200ms.

These settings allow lots of leeway for big files--they are the settings Alesis recommended for updating Andromeda.

Under Options, "Select output device" (that will be Voyager).

Under the File menu, use "Open any" to point to the sysex file on your hard drive (sometimes Sysex is finicky about the simple "Open" command seeing files. You get a little window with a Transmit button.

Follow the OS update instructions for prepping the Voyager. I just did this, and it works like a charm. You can now call yourself a MIDIOT!

Remember the new version of the alphabet! "B" now comes before "A", and then "C" (Joke! --refers to the update instructions. Hey, if the Moog folks say so, that works for us!)

Next thing you might want to look into after the update is a basic MIDI sequencer for your G3 just to explore the possibilities (evil laugh), but this is enough to worry about for now.

a BIG THANK to the Moog-Team!

Post by StefanH » Sat Feb 28, 2004 11:12 am

Thanks to the whole Moog - Team!
The new features sounding great, i will update today (after lunch)!
Sending out CC#'s and transposing the midiout-keys is fantastic, i guess combinig 16 voyagers is great too, but since now i have to be happy with one of them ;-).
One thing that makes me laugh is the fact that you to load the three syx-files in order B-A-C !!! Wouldn't it be more clear just to rename syx-A to syx-B and B to A, mhm, maybe i am a bit to simple... (just thinking about the all the people which hate manuals).
Anyway, nice work, nice features makes me saving money for more Moogish things.

Moog Web Site still not compatible with Safari

Post by stretta » Sat Feb 28, 2004 3:26 pm

If you're using OS X and you're wondering where the downlaods are, you still can't use Safari to access downloads.

However, if you launch IE, you can get there.

No MID files of OS 2.0, though.

Thanks for alll the help! I'm excited to check out all the new routing features.

I'm not going to be able to upgrade for a week. I just sent the Voyager to the east coast.

What are the new ways to route signals???

Hey...

Cikira(or anyone else) can you recommend a "simple gizmo" MIDI interface in the $40 range tha will do the trick? Will any do? Do they just plug into the firewire ports or the USB ports? As you can see I have really no clue...

Thanks again...

Sir_dss I recently purchased a M-AUDIO usb midisport 2x2 (usb 2 midi) for my laptop and it was only $50 CDN and it wasnt the cheapest one either so i suggest looking at your local dealer or online for their products. Also just download the software file to read the .pdf on all the new features so u can check out the new pot mapping modulation routings.
Have fun!

No panel local off?

Post by stretta » Sat Feb 28, 2004 6:18 pm

Am I missing something or is there no way to turn local off on the front panel? The keyboard local can be turned off, but the knobs will still affect the synthesizer in this mode.

This is a serious drag if I can't do this. I'd like to create some Max software that turns the front panel into a step sequencer and arpeggiator. With a panel local off mode, I could allow the user to edit the voyager while the sequence burbles OR use the front panel to edit the sequence. Without local off, you're always editing the voyager, no matter what.

Someone, please, enlighten me.

Are you saying you need to use MID files to update with a Mac? I have used SysEx Librarian on my Mac running OSX 10.2 and 10.3 to update my Voyager. I just updated to Voyager software 2.0 a few minutes ago with it running Mac OSX 10.3.2. If you need it go to download it here:

Great update but where do we post bugs or apperent problems?

Post by dfulton » Sun Feb 29, 2004 2:46 am

I love the update but I noticed (maybe it was like this before.) that when you hit the master button while holding keys down (and sending midi notes out),
the voyager sends an "all notes off" out, turning off my midi modules.

Am i missing something?

It's true. I cannot find the DL's using Safari.

But a cut and paste of the URL works.
