Moog Prodigy: All of a sudden no Audio!!
Moog Prodigy: All of a sudden no Audio!!
The last time I used her was about a week ago. Just for some sounds. The only time I ever had problems with dropping out audio was if the voltage in the room sagged (Industrial Building Basement with multiple rooms that share 2 common power sources at the breaker box). But I powered her up, and whaaaaa??? Nothing! I tried different sockets. I tried a variac to ensure proper voltage. Nothing. Nothing! I opened her up. All wires intact, as they have always been. Is there a resistor I should be checking? Please assist before I get taken for a repair job@!@

Do you know what a electrolytic capacitor looks like when its fried ? The top, which is usually flat, bubbles up.. The legs might look fine, no big obvious black charred spots, but if any caps have a slight bubbly (rounded) top. relpace them..
I think most likely blew a cap.. When you say nothing, does that mean no light either or buzz or anything? Did you check the lo-blo fuses.. I believe the Prodigy has two attached to the inside of the back panel... (maybe just one, i forget).. Test the fuse, it is hopefully just the fuse.. If the power was funny (not grounded, etc) it hopefully just blew the fuse and didn't go further than that...
Thats what fuses are for, so unless the electricity was particularly EVIL your little beuaty should be fine...
Let me know what the haps is....

the problem.
No apparent frying of anything in particular, but I will investigate the caps later today. Slo-blo fuses intact. All wires intact. Power light on. Nothing pungent-smelly. I did not remove all the knobs to remove, flip and view the topside of the pcb, yet. I did plug her in again, just to satisfy my seeking an answer. What I did hear, was a pusling tick, click. It's level was respective to the master volume. Didn't check each osc just yet. Prior to all this nonsense, the thing worked like a dream. Oh, it's a 336A. Being particularly apprehensive to send out for service, fearing It would be stripped of its originals..... you know. I have the schematic with the cap ranges on them, and a multmeter so I guess diagnosis is not that far off.... happy 4th of July!!
