Keyboard feels sluggish-can it be fixed in firmware

There seems to be a lot of travel on the Messenger keyboard before a note triggers. Is it possible for firmware to speed this up, or is it a hardware limitation?

All my other keyboards have 2-3mm of dead space before they sound.

I'm surprised that the Messenger keyboard is hardly criticized generally. It seems to be a cheap chinese no-name keybed. Fast accented funky basses with ghost notes are impossible with it. For me, it's unplayable because the springs are too stiff for my taste. Stiffer than all other synth keyboards I own. The same applies to the pitch wheel. The return spring is much too stiff for expressive pitch bends. For this reason, I returned the Messenger, even though it's sound and features are not bad at all.
