Moog cover

Post by Elfdragon » Mon Feb 02, 2004 6:44 pm

Does anyone know where I can get my grubby little mitts on this brilliant cover of 'Black Hole Sun' by Soundgarden done on a moog? I think the band who did it were called Moog Patrol, although I'm not sure about that, and I'm pretty sure the cover was done on a moog.

Does anybody own it or know where I can download it?
Thanks

It's by The Moog Cookbook. Amazon.com carries it link below:

The Moog Cookbook...highly recommended!

Not only are their two albums, The Moog Cookbook and Plays the Classic Rock Hits, treasure troves of analog sounds - they are freaking hilarious. I think these are some of the best parody albums of all time - parodying both the "Moog album" craze of the late 60's through early 70's and the grunge and classic rock songs they subject to their treatment. There are moments on each album where I was literally clutching my stomach in pain from laughing so hard (I won't ruin the element of surprise for those who haven't heard them).

And for those seeking to hear an army of vintage synths in one place these albums can't be beat. Moogs abound (Minimoog, Polymoog, Memorymoog, Micromoog, Multimoog, 3C modular, Sonic Six, Opus 3, Source, Liberation) but you'll also hear other synths (ARP, Oberheim, Roland, Yamaha, Korg, Octave, DKS, Gleeman), vintage keyboards (Clavinet, Hammond organs, combo organs, Mellotron) and rhythm boxes. Best of all, the liner notes detail which keyboards are being used for any given part.

Kudos to Brian Kehew and Roger Manning Jr. for putting out two fun albums loaded with analog goodness. My only regret in buying them is that, after hearing them, I'm totally jealous of the fun they must have had making them.

They also did the ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT funky remix of Air's 'Kelly Watch The Stars' (imaginitively titled Moog Cookbook Remix). It can be found on the 'All I Need' CD single, which is well worth tracking down for this alone.

Another Moog Cookbook track

Thanks, I'll have to track down that Air single. Come to think of it they also did a cover of "Big Me" by the Foo Fighters. It's on a Foo Fighters single, though I'm not sure which one. You can actually hear it being played as elevator music at the beginning of one of their videos (I forget which video - definitely not "Big Me" though).
