Are Moogerfoogers overrated or do they live up to the hype/pricetag?

I like minifoogers as much as the next guy, and the expression pedal input on them is super nice (i like to use it with pass filters, reverbs, ring mods, etc) and they sound great considering the price (most can be had for $150 used). However, those regular Moogerfoogers are giant and have a pricetag to match, and I'm not sure why that is, compared to similar pedals. Thoughts?

Built by Moog. Discontinued. Therefore premium price over the starting premium price they already sold for when they were still being produced.

They do sound good and offer unique features with voltage control.

Most other pedals don't have so many CV interfacing possibilities. And many, many pedals are missing the number of parameters. And some, especially the MF 104 Delay are very expensive, as those how good one are trying their best to keep it. It sounds so wonderful. With high feedback, it reminds me so much of my old tape machine delay.
keep on turning these Moog knobs

The Moogerfoogers are super worth their price for filtering any audio. I think most people only understand them as weird big guitar pedals, but the fact that you can pipe both control and audio to other pedals makes them somewhat infinite. Even a single Moogerfooger lets you do subtle audio changes of its kind, or extreme sound effects or noise, which is not what normal guitar pedals are designed for.

Then, if you get a 2nd Moogerfooger, you effectively have those 2 Moogerfoogers, and sort of 2 or more additional Moogerfooger combination pedals. I think it's really hard to demo that effectively, so you see very few videos on youtube or elsewhere about what is possible. Since they've released software versions of the plugins that are also able to be connected to each other, that's likely to be your best best these days. If you find 1 or 2 you really like via software, the big knobs and wide spacing make them easy and fun to use as physical devices.

They are so worth the money. Buy them on used sites or locally to save a few bucks (I see the best deals on Craigslist, but deals can be had on guitar center's used site (after shipping and taxes), or even sometimes eBay or reverb). Be patient though (deals will arise if you wait). The MF-102 and MF-107 are often the cheapest but they can do really really fun stuff.

I'll have to demo the ones I have and do them in stereo ...and I mean "doubled-up" with 2 of the same Moogerfoogers, not just taking the two outputs from a single Moogerfooger (which is almost as glorious). I never did get a 2nd MF-104m, but the MF-105m and MF108m in dual are fantastic.

Glad I acquired a pair of original MF-104 delays back in the day (the Big Briar models before the "m"/"z" models).

Some years later I acquired one of the first Voyagers (Signature model).

I put the filters in stereo mode, cranked the resonance so they oscillated, modulated both with S&H, routed each output to an MF104, swept the cutoffs/spread with the touch screen and listened with headphones.

If there were narcotics for the ears, that was it.

:)

Have you had the opportunity to compare the MF-104 with the MF-104Z, by chance? If so, how do they differ?

I think overall they are totally worth the hype. That being said, some people will get connect more with certain Moogerfoogers over others. I think it just depends on how you intend to use them. My favorite is the Ring Modulator, which I know some people can't stand at all. :)
