Subharmonicon Boot Issue Traced to Audio Output Board — Spare Parts or VCA Workaround?

Post by greeengrin » Thu Apr 24, 2025 8:26 am

Hi all,

My Subharmonicon suddenly stopped working from one day to the next. Upon powering up, only LED 1 of Sequencer 1 is blinking erratically, and the unit becomes unresponsive. I tried a firmware update, but it doesn’t recognize any incoming messages.

After opening the unit and doing some troubleshooting with a multimeter, I discovered that the issue is being caused by the audio output board. When I disconnect the output board, the Subharmonicon powers up correctly and responds as expected.

Here are my two questions:

Can Moog provide a replacement audio output board as a spare part for direct purchase?

While waiting for a solution, is it safe to use the VCA output directly into my audio interface to continue using the synth without the output board?

Appreciate any input from users who might have faced a similar issue, and from Moog support if you're reading this.

Thanks in advance,

The VCA output follows the volume control, so you can dial the volume down to optimum audio interface input levels.
