I recently bought a Grandmother. Totally loving it.
I would like to match the arp/seq rate to my DAW session rate. I can send CC8 just fine and the GM accepts it over either USB or din MIDI. According to the manual, CC8 and CC40 work together to increase the rate resolution. For example, if I have a session BPM of 111, CC8 0-127 has no match for that BPM, so I'm hoping to figure out how to use CC40. So far, no luck. I've tried two different DAWs and the sendmidi tool. It seems no matter what I do, the GM seems to think CC40 is no different from CC8. I would appreciate any advice as to what I'm missing or failing to see.
Grandmother arp/seq tempo sync to DAW
Re: Grandmother arp/seq tempo sync to DAW
Look at the LED in the ARP/SEQ section under the RATE knob. When the GM is midi synced to your DAW, the LED will change color.
I never had to use CC8 or CC40. Make sure your DAW sends out midi clock. Your DAW needs to be the master and not GM.

Re: Grandmother arp/seq tempo sync to DAW
It sounds like you're on the right track using CC8 for the arp/seq rate, but you’re running into an issue with CC40 not giving the expected fine control over the rate. According to the manual, CC40 should be used for fine-tuning, but it might be worth checking if there’s any specific setting in the Global MIDI (GM) settings to enable finer resolution with CC40. Also, make sure that CC40 is being recognized separately from CC8 in your DAW or sendmidi tool; sometimes there can be a conflict or override in the MIDI message. You could try sending both CC8 and CC40 in quick succession to ensure the GM registers them together. If you’re still having trouble, you might also experiment with changing the MIDI channel or testing with another MIDI controller to rule out any communication issue.audiodef wrote: Thu Mar 21, 2024 1:59 pm I recently bought a Grandmother.
