My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
Try Turing yours on and don't touch anything and see if this happens. Mine is V1.2
Nothing I found in the manual and all other lights remain lit as normal.
My PolyBrute 12 and Deckard's go into a sleep mode which is obvious.
I did this (3) times and got the same result.
What was odd is while I was playing the screen goes blank probably happened about 10 times in a month (I don't play long) not sure but it comes back with a touch of a knob or button. Is mine the only one doing this?

Re: My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
So nobody else with a Muse has their screen go blank? I need a confirmation as my time is running out on a return.
Re: My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
Ok I just wanted to confirm mine wasn't defective but I measured the delay to about 35 minutes.

Perhaps it’s a sort of screensaver.
Re: My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
It is like a screen saver but what's weird is it rarely ever goes off as you'd expect and it takes 35 minutes and the whole synth doesn't go into a sleep mode only the screen. It might have been an after thought that Mood hasn't fully worked out such as no Menu setting to change it or have the whole unit go to sleep etc.
Just having the screen go off doesn't really save power and 35 minutes is a long time. I think my PolyBrute 12 goes off after like 5 minutes the matrix system does a slow light show. That actually makes sense and you realize it's supposed to be doing that. IF your screen just disappears you're thinking what the heck is it broken?
Now I've only ever had the Sub37 Moog product a long time ago and they are only just recently releasing poly synths so this is sort of uncharted territory I assume. They are playing catch up with manufacturers who have been at this a really long time for this type synth. I love it but it's got a few quirks they need to work on like this and the key velocity with dropped notes issue.
One reviewer on SW gave it a bad rating said he couldn't play a bass line because of the key action and returned it. I agree that should have been fixed before release. It shouldn't be any less responsive than any Moog previously made. I noticed it dropped out notes not because of 8 voices but the key action. I hope it's not the hardware or they will have to issue new boards.
Try pressing your finger on a key so that the key is say 1/8" down in the beginning position and then press down a hundred times and nothing will happen. There's no sensor triggering unless you start all the way at the top. Maybe I need to check the retriggering to make sure that's not off when I was testing that. I'm not a performer but I'd like to hear what performers think of the key action and triggering.

I don't think the screen going out is about saving power; the draw on these little OLEDs is next to nothing, especially compared to the rest of the machine that dissipates enough power to stay well above ambient temperature. In the long run they can burn in though, and preventing it is worthwhile. It would be nice if they would document it though so that people wouldn't be left wondering what's up. In a mature firmware one could even imagine they might make the timeout configurable.davlippo7 wrote: Sat Oct 05, 2024 12:22 pm It is like a screen saver but what's weird is it rarely ever goes off as you'd expect and it takes 35 minutes and the whole synth doesn't go into a sleep mode only the screen. So I was watching this video and as you can see (this site won't allow me to attach a photo else I could show you) and not sure if it allows links but at 1:07 the Muse screen goes blank while they are playing it. Then it goes blank again near the end of the video so I'm not crazy after all.

They do much prefer the PB12 and even PB6 over Muse but I have both and enjoy them both. They are different enough to have both. At the end they do admit liking the Muse more than at the beginning. It is tactile fun and might have better filters and sequencer etc. I didn't have any issue with the buttons as long as they keep working.

Re: My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
Mine screen just went blank after about a half hour of playing. Everything else works it’s just the screen goes blank. When I switch to another patch it comes back on. Can anyone confirm if this is intentional in the design of the synth or is it a malfunction?
Re: My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
Is Moog really that poor at customer relations that they don't have someone assigned to read the forum and answer simple questions? Yamaha isn't fantastic but at least they do have the occasional rep. to to show up and answer basic questions.
Re: My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
Has anyone submitted a support ticket with Moog and received an answer on whether this is a hardware or firmware bug? I am nearly the end of the return window on mine and need to make a decision soon. It happens too randomly on mine (including while playing or being triggered by MIDI) for me to believe it’s something that’s supposed to be happening. I haven’t timed it yet but it’s definitely not at regular intervals like 35 minutes on mine- sometimes more, sometimes less. Simple enough to wake it and everything else continues to work normally when the screen goes black, but it’s very annoying and troubling on a new synth.
I just submitted a support ticket but I understand that replies are taking longer due to the storm cleanup in Asheville.

Re: My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
To be clear mine goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it, I tested it 3 times. However it also goes blank for other unknown reasons like you mentioned I might be working on a patch or changing patches and it goes blank randomly. That is a bug for sure however the 35 minute version might be a timeout setting. The PolyBrute12 goes blank consistently and all the board's light go completely off and it enters a standby light sequence so it's obviously a power saving feature. The Muse in comparison goes off for no reason so it's a bug IMO. Surely all beta testers had theirs also go blank so not sure why this hasn't been fixed yet.

Re: My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
It's a bit annoying but honestly (and no offense intended) I hope that given the rest of the issues they've got on their plate this one isn't a top priority. I can totally live with this, but the latency issues and for me especially the velocity response inconsistencies are killers.
Re: My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
IF their headquarters is in NC it might a really long time we get any answers to anything. I should have returned mine but then I figured I'd likely buy it again later after the fixes so I decided to keep it. Any "new" one you get might have been in a flooded warehouse from what I've heard. Prices could drop to move them out and the PB12 sort of kills the Muse on several levels. It's possible Moog rushed this out the door and knew it had problems but decided they'd fix them on the back end. That's pretty lame because they knew obviously it had issues. The only good thing was no interest financing deal they have going for like 4 years.
For people who can just sit the Muse in their home studio and wait a year or two for fixes (like me) might be fine but players and artists and producers needing this to work now aren't going to be happy and on to better options.

Re: My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
OLED screens are prone to burnout with prolonged use. Probably a safety feature to prevent this. Shame it’s not documented though.
Re: My screen goes blank after 35 minutes without touching it
I experience the same. After a few minutes or after a longer period of time, the monitor comes back on when I press any key, and I wonder if this is a warranty case or will be taken care of with an update. It doesn't bother me much at the moment – but if it's a bug, then it could happen more often or the display could fail completely at some point. I've only had my Muse for three days, but it seems that only the patch page is affected. The sequencer page has been open for two hours now – stable screen.
