Looking for ideal case/power/mixer setup for 3x moog semi modular units

Post by dunmer_sanders » Tue Jul 23, 2024 3:30 pm

Hello all… Hoping someone has already gone down this road and has found a good solution, and would appreciate a little direction on the best options.

I have had the sound studio units for some time. I use a simple 3d printed stand with a crappy little mixer and a daisy chained power brick. It’s a mess and it’s ugly. This is my first venture into semi modular synth world and it was the stuff I got just to get things working.

Hoping to find a more professional setup that will house all three units. I want a solution that has a mixer of some kind built in or as a separate Eurorack module that can be added, and a power supply for all of them. Having a little extra space for a couple small reverb and delay Eurorack modules would be great too, although that’s not critical since i can usually just dial up effects in Ableton, but it would be nice to have the option on board.

I found a Doepfer 9u 3x84hp unit that I like. So I think that would work? Any suggestions on mixing? I know these are mono, or dual mono out... what's the best solution there? What other modules are recommended?

Thanks so much!

You can't go wrong with that Doepfer case - I've got a similar one and the base as well (6ux84). You're on the right track and the amount of options are staggering as far as what other modules you could add for mixing, etc.

I personally use 2x Make Noise X-Pan going into a Joranalogue Transmit 2, but there are many brands and options. I would go over to the modwiggler forum and pose the exact same question there. You're sure to get a variety of suggestions.

In general I would recommend a mixer and output module (sometimes mixers have a line output built in), probably a flexible attenuverter/offset module for shifting voltages around, a multiple, and some extra modulation sources (envelopes/lfos). A common popular choice is something like Pamela's Pro Workout.

Another thing you can do is go to https://modulargrid.net/ and check out the top modules. You can also search by category (mixer, attenuverter, etc).

Honestly you can't go wrong with Pam's and Maths. :)
