Matriarch: Patching velocity output amplitude

Post by nezzyidy » Thu Mar 10, 2022 2:46 pm

I was sequencing the Matriarch via MIDI and wanted to have the velocity control note volume and the output from the keyboard vel out and sequencer vel out both were not outputting velocity so I downgraded to firmware v1.1.0.

Thankfully that worked, midi velocity goes out of the keyboard out (but not the sequencer vel out) but if I patch that into the master VCA CV In points then send a velocity of 1 (lowest velocity) I get a half volume note, and a max volume note with a velocity of 127.

The problem is that I cant produce quiet notes - only slightly quieter notes. I think a CV offset module could solve my problem but I found a workaround. I sent the velocity to an attenuverter and inverted the signal before going to the VCA CV in. Now values of 127 are silent and velocity values of 1 are loud. It's annoying to program the velocity this way but on an octatrack it's not too much of an inconvenience. Anyway, I have full control of volume via MIDI now.

How do you peeps patch velocity to volume?

Ah, ok, to answer my own question, I found the solution - I watched a video where the person showed how to do it.

Patch:
amp env out to attenuator in
attenuator out to VCA CV In 1
keyboard vel out to attenuator CV In
Set attenuator to the center position
Important! - Set amp envelope to DRONE MODE

That's all. (VCA CV In 1 is normalled to VCA CV In 2 so there's no need for a mult)
It works perfect.
