Solo on Pink Floyd's Dogs

Post by Tonebox » Thu Aug 10, 2017 11:20 am

Hello all. Been trying to figure out how Richard Wright, at times, got the solo sound so "squawky" on Dogs. I'm using a Voyager RME.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QA30qkRYy8 (Starts around 10:05)

Any insight to any of the Minimoog sounds on this track would be great!

Try resonance and 100% keyboardtracking of the filter.
But due to the different main sound of the oscillators (Minimoog sounds brighter), it might not work.
The Voyager is not able to clone most typical Minimoog sounds perfectly.
keep on turning these Moog knobs

Prodigy * minimoog '79 * Voyager * MF102 * MF103 * MF104z * MP201 * Taurus 3 * Minitaur * Sub Phatty * MF105 * Minimoog 2017+ MUSE * One 16 (sold)

one of my alltime fave songs & albums

I am no expert, but I think you should be able to approximate that; sounds like he is tweaking the resonance while playing & using a high osc range.

and riding the LFO mod wheel

you might try using a footpedal to adjust things while you play?

also, since it was done in the studio, there's no telling what else he is using there. the minimoog may be running thru some other stuff

I never noticed this before, but it sounds like there is an edit at 10:02 on that song, where they spliced the tape

Thanks for the replies! gonna give these techniques a try.

I've been doing everything without pedals attached to the rme, in hopes of controlling everything from a Kurzweil PC3. I think that's gonna change :)
