Transposition feature needs to be improved

Post by vitel2 » Tue Mar 14, 2006 5:37 am

I play organ in a band and use the Voyager to cover the bass parts. It sounds amazing.
I had the bright idea, after reading an article about Soul Live, to combine a sampled bass sound (from a Kurzweil MicroEnsemble) with the moog at times.
Of course, the Voyager transmits MIDI two octaves above where I want it. You can transpose the keyboard down, take the through from the module, transpose the MIDI inputs up, and turn of local control (according to the manual) to work around this. Or you can transpose the keyboard down and raise the oscilators by two octaves.
Both of these options are a big pain.
Why not have a setting where you can transpose the out-going MIDI if you can transpose the incoming MIDI?
Maybe in the next OS upgrade.....? :?: :?

I may not be understanding this correctly (I'm probably not). It sounds like you are trying to play both the Voyager sound and the Kurzweil sound at the same time from the Voyager keyboard running midi out from the Voyager to midi in on the Kurzweil but the notes are then two octaves too high on the Kurzweil (is that right?) Can you just transpose the Kurzweil down two octaves? Sorry if I totally misunderstood what you were asking.

I am doing the same when I play Baba O'Riley only using the Voyager and an Emu Classic Keys Module. I made my own patch for the Voyager and all that I am doing is having audio out to my mixer from each, and transposed the Emu down 1 octave.

When you transpose they keyboard down to transmit MIDI, it sounds lower too. Which I don't want.
The MicroEnsemble doesn't have a transpose function, as far as I know - it's pretty bare bones.
As I mentioned, there are two work arounds. But we should be able to do it with a touch of a button.

Yeah, must agree that it is a pity that you can transpose the keyboard and the incoming MIDI stream but not the outgoing one, which would probably be more useful. Perhaps in 3.2...
