sub37 editor vst not connecting

Post by folieadeux » Wed Jan 25, 2017 10:07 am

Hi there,

I've used the sub37 editor in ableton without any problems. Yesterday i've had to reinstall windows on my computer, so I also had to reinstall the sub37 driver/vst plugin again.
However it's not connecting anymore. It keeps saying "The editor can not connect to the hardware" The standalone version does work.
I've tried to put the midi i/o settings to usb only, update the firmware again. installed the drivers again but nothing works.
Hope someone has the answer to this!

Using windows 8.1 / ableton

Thanks!

Have you tried selecting again the Sub 37 port from the Editor Settings? Additionally doing a similar procedure from Ableton's preferences

Hello guys,

I'm a new Sub37 owner and I'm having the same issues. My stand alone editor is working and sync to my Sub37 but my VST on Ableton " The editor cannot connect to the hardware. Please connect your sub37and set Midi in and out on page set up".

On Ableton/Preferences/Midi the Moog Sub 37 has already Midi ports in/out and the Editor doesn't have any preference menu

Hope anyone can help

Thank you!

The problem is that only one program can connect to the Sub at any given time via one link.

If for example the standalone version is running and connected via midi in/out to the sub,
the vst version will not be able to make a connection through that same midi connection.

Nor will your DAW (here it's mostly ableton) itself be able to send /receive midi data.
The same will hapen in reverse. Basically first program to make connection gets to keep it for itself.
Also the Vst and Live will compete for the connection similarly.

The solution is this:
there are 2 links to your sub: midi i/o and usb i/o.

You can set up communication to the daw via midi
and use the Usb to connect to either Vst or standalone editor. (or the other way around)

just make sure the daw is not using the same link method in any way, Because then the editor will be unable to use it.
if for example in Live preferences the sub37 usb is set as a controller device, or if one of the sync/remote buttons is lit in either in or output, the usb connection will not be useable to the editor.

Same goes for the DAW midi in/out connected to the sub 37. (the other way around)

good luck

This is not generally true: when using a Mac multiple programs can use the same connection. I believe this is not the case on Windows by default, although I understood when using Moog's driver it should be possible to do this on Windows as well (that's why they created the driver).
