Which Moogerfoooger should be next?

Post by thenightgoat » Wed Mar 15, 2006 12:02 am

After lingering around the Moog website for sometime, I recently took the plunge and purchased the MuRF followed shortly after by the Ring Modulator. I have been completely floored by the expressiveness and flexibility of the units and have been running every possible audio source through them. Guitar, Bass, Keyboard, Drums, etc. It is really hard to find a bad sound in these units. They have really sparked my creativity. Which unit should I purchase next? I tried the MF-101 at the store I purchased the other two and was pretty underwhelmed. It seemed too subtle for guitar. I also tried the phaser and liked it, but itseemed too similar to cheaper phasers. The delay is too much for my budget. Any reccommendations? Which combination of Moogerfooger have people really enjoyed? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ah, the there's more to the Low Pass then you think! Put an expression pedal with it. Take the LFO outs of the Ring Mod and put them in the Filter's Cutoff In. Take the Envelope Out and put it in the Freq. In of the Ring Mod. If you like insane sounds, the Low Pass Filter is the way to go. I like it much better than the phaser.

But the Delay is just wonderful.

I think you could get a lot out of your two Moogerfoogers if you added the CP-251.

Personally, I have the 101, 102, and 251 and like this setup a lot. I'm not sure if I'll add the phaser or an analog CV sequencer next. I do want the analog delay (pricey!) and think the phaser is great, especially if you give it a signal with a lot of harmonics to work with, such as a fuzzed guitar.

I know what you mean about the 101. when i first got it i plugged me guitar into it by itself and thought it was broken. with the 102 and 105 no matter which knob you turn your going to get some crazyness. the 101 really starts to shine when it's combined with those other 2 pedals though. Mark is right the cv patching you can do when you use the cv outs of the 101 and 102 combined to control each other and the murf are amazing.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definately be checking out the LPF again (this time with an expression pedal). I'm also really interested in seeing what I can do with the CV inputs. Seeing how I'm really just a plug and play kind of a guy, I'm still amazed with how easy it is to tweak these pedals and come up with really cool sounds. The only problem is remembering what I've done later.

Bring a few 1/4 inch patch cables with you when you check it out.
