Filter Sweeps?

Ok this is a pretty newb question but could someone please explain what a filter sweep is? Does have anything to do with having the LFO cranked up then pulling pack down? Thats probably wrong because that seems like it would be called an LFO sweep (just kidding about that last part)

Someone will come along soon and give you a more professional answer -- but a filter sweep is just moving the filter through the range of frequencies it, um, filters. Play a note and turn the knob.

An LFO is a low frequency oscillator, it puts out waves at a sub-audible frequency, and you can use this wave to control things like the filter, resulting perhaps a filtersweep, kind of like an invisible hand turning the knob for you.

A filter sweep is usually accomplished by modulating the cutoff of your filter from one extreme to the other. It can be done via an LFO, Envelope or any other control voltage source. You can also do it by turning the cutoff by hand. It can create quite a dramatic sound depending on the speed of the modulation as well as the source. It's like a wah-wah pedal.

I agree, right now, I am going mono out of my FR777 (set at 46 bpm) into the Mooger LPF and then into the Mooger Phase, stereo outs each into a 104z Moog delay. (each with a Moog RM in it's effect loop)

Tweaking the filter sounds amazing. There is also CV control going on everywhere.

Tweaking the delay sounds far-out.

I am always surprised with the output of the Moogers.
