Sub37 + tc electronic flashback triple delay
Sub37 + tc electronic flashback triple delay
I need a help with connecting tc electronic flashback triple delay with my sub37. I used audio/out cable from sub and plugged it in delay's Input/mono. Then delay should convert it into stereo signal? I used out/stereo on delay and plugged it again to audio/in on sub. But delay seems not working. I've been told that in order to use any kind of delay I don't need any more devices. Thanks in advance.
Re: Sub37 + tc electronic flashback triple delay
Your should connect it like this: Sub 37 -> Delay -> amplifier/mixer/audio-interface -> headphones/speakers
Or in more detail:
- A single cable from the Sub 37 output to the Delay mono input
and
- Two cables from the Delay stereo outputs (the mono and stereo jacks is the same as left and right) to the mixer/amplifier/audio-interface stereo inputs
(you can also connect the Delay mono output to a single amplifier/mixer/audio-interface input for a mono setup)
Then you can plug your headphones into the mixer/amp/audio-interface, or use a monitor speaker system (your stereo sound system will do the job).
BTW, that delay looks really cool - should be a perfect partner for your Sub 37
Hope that helps!

Re: Sub37 + tc electronic flashback triple delay
Cheers matey! It worked like a charm:) I knew that sub37 sounds great on its own, but after I plugged this delay, the sound expression blew me away. Those triple delays are just beyond imagination:) I've been playing with this only for hour or so and it already sounds so good.
And just one more question: I have Focurite scarlett 2i/2 soundcard
https://imusicdata.cz/focusrite-scarlet ... oC57fw_wcB
and wonder if there will be more audio I/O for Arturia beatstep pro and Moog mother-32 since I have this delay connected to the both front audio's.
Thanks a lot again my friend you just made my day:) God bless ya

Re: Sub37 + tc electronic flashback triple delay
You're welcome - good to hear that you have it working!
Unfortunately there's no way of getting more than 2 input channels (a stereo pair) on the Focusrite Scarlett 2i/2. You could run a mixer in front of the Focusrite, or you would have to get an interface with more input channels.
A small and cheap mixer like e.g. Behringer 802 will do the trick. Using a mixer like that would allow you to use the delay for both the Sub 37 and the Mother 32, and in different proportions even if you use the FX send and AUX returns on the mixer. A mixer like that still has a few channels left for hooking up microphones, guitar etc..
The drawback of using a mixer in front of your Focusrite is that you can't record the instruments on separate tracks in one take - I don't know if that matters to you at this point(?) You could record the Sub 37 to one track in the first take, then the Mother 32 on another track in the next take and so on. A multichannel audio interface would let you record all the instruments onto separate tracks in one take, which is convenient if you're going to do a lot of recording and mixdowns.
Whichever method you opt for, you can post here in this thread if you need further tips for connecting and using the setup.
And yeah, a good delay is great fun to play with and a surefire way to get lost in sound for hours on end!

Hello Siggy,
Could you possibly post an example of the sound with the pedal?
I'm currently thinking about buying pedal effect for my sub37, but still hesitating

Re: Sub37 + tc electronic flashback triple delay
@DrJustice: So if I'm understand this correctly, mixer would be better option then for instance upgrade to FOCUSRITE Scarlett 6i6-2G? A dedicated soundcard would be able record all instruments on separate tracks, but ext. mixer cannot? In that case I'd prefer better soundcard then. Equipment is sub37, mother-32, delay + arturia beatstep pro. And I'm not planning to add anything to it. This will be whole setup. So would the 6i6-2G do the trick? Thanks for your response!
@Abaolol: Hey mate, I could definitelly do that, but now I'm still in phase putting it all together. As soon as I have it all working out, I can upload to a YT or soundcloud. Btw - it sounds amazingly strange and possibilities are literally endless:)

Re: Sub37 + tc electronic flashback triple delay
Yes, you got that right, Siggy.
The Scarlett 6i6-2G can also function as a stand alone mixer, without having it connected to your PC (manual page 15) - you must connect it and set it up using the Focusrite Control software first. Beware that even though it's specified as a 6 input soundcard, 2 of those are on a digital SP-DIF jack. Your two Moogs can be connected to the 4 analogue inputs and recorded in one go, so it covers that.
For this configuration, you can use the delay for one of the Moogs at a time, connecting it between the Moog and the soundcard inputs, or you could connect the delay to the Scarlett outputs and get the delay on the mix of both synths, but then the delay sound would not be recorded. That is where a mixer provides a bit more flexibility in a live situation, since it can apply the delay in different amounts to the two synths. For recording you can of course do as many takes you like to separate tracks, so you can get a whole 'orchestra' going. Anyway, these are the everyday 'dilemmas' of sound engineers, and you will find your way.
I see that the Scarlett 6i6-2G comes with both Pro Tools and Ableton recording software (in case you don't have any yet), as well as some effect plugins for use with the recording software. This should be enough to get you started with multitrack recording.

Re: Sub37 + tc electronic flashback triple delay
Nice! I think I will go for soundcard then. Having both Moog's and delay playing at the same time, even if delay is only on one of them, its fine with me. And about recording tracks to Albeton - will this work, as one Moog with delay is recorded on one take, and then record the other one separately? If yes, its just ok:)
And one last noobie question - how is the easiest setup for ext. recording track in Ableton? I'm having those nice exploring experimental ideas and I'd like to post something for Abaolol:)
Really appreciate your advices:) Cheers

Re: Sub37 + tc electronic flashback triple delay
Yes, you can record one track after another to build up a multitrack session, with or without delay and with different delay settings, different sounds etc. for every track, the only limit is your imagination
Then you can mix down all the separate tracks, using the supplied plugins for more effects, EQ and so on, to a single stereo track ready for publishing on YouTube, SoundCloud and similar services.
I'm not familiar with Ableton (I use Cubase), but head over to the Ableton forum, and you should get all the help you need there.
