Sub 37 + Mother 32
Sub 37 + Mother 32
Hi I've had a Sub 37 for a little over a year and love it. I recently had to sell my Prophet 6 (more of a moog guy anyway) and recently picked up a mother 32. I was hoping to use the mother 32 as a 3rd voice/oscillator for sub 37. Is this possible? I tried going midi out the sub 37 into the midi in on the mother 32 then the audio out from the mother 32 to the ext. audio in on the sub 37 but I could only hear the sub 37. I can get midi from my sub37 no problem, but is there anyway to actually use the mother 32 as an extra voice so I could say play 3 note chords? Or am I better off with a minitaur or slim phatty for this?
Re: Sub 37 + Mother 32
I'm not sure why you're not hearing the Mother 32 right now (you have the ext audio volume up?), but currently all notes you're playing on the Sub 37 keyboard are sent out via MIDI and the monophonic Mother 32 at least won't really work predictably when sent multiple pitches at the same time. I guess you'd need to setup a polychain to have the Sub 37 send the correct MIDI to the additional synth (not all of the notes). I'm not sure if these two models can work together in a polychain, but you could always give it a try.

So I'm still a bit confused if I get the mother 32 to work in the ext. audio in on the sub37 and played the sub 37 monophonic or just sent 1 note to it at a time (I typically send midi from ableton because I have no keyboard talents) would the mother 32 act as a 3rd or 4th voice if you include the sub oscillator or would it basically be the same as playing the same thing on two different synths/sounds.breun wrote:I'm not sure why you're not hearing the Mother 32 right now (you have the ext audio volume up?), but currently all notes you're playing on the Sub 37 keyboard are sent out via MIDI and the monophonic Mother 32 at least won't really work predictably when sent multiple pitches at the same time. Re: Sub 37 + Mother 32
If you're playing a note on the Sub 37 and send out that same pitch via MIDI to the Mother 32, then you'd just hear the same thing as if you'd play that same pitch on both synths separately (and send their outputs into a mixer, which is what you're doing in the Sub 37 mixer with the external audio input). Of course you could have either synth play another pitch relative to the pitch it receives, but that's kind of where the fun ends if you don't set up a polychain. If you set up a polychain, things get more interesting, because then you can play multiple pitches on a keyboard and have different pitches played by different synths (that, being monophonic, could otherwise only interpret a single pitch). So I'd definitely try that.
Re: Sub 37 + Mother 32
So just to clarify (I can be dumb with this stuff). The mother 32 will work as a 3rd oscillator. However, if I don't poly chain it and just go Sub37 midi out->M32 Midi In->m32 audio out-> sub 37 ex input, I will only be able to play single note leads or bass lines (with the 3rd oscillator) or if I polychain it I can use it to play two note chords (to my understanding duophonic doesnt work in polychain scenarios) having one note played through each synth. Also if I polychain I would have to use two audio inputs to my comp (I only have a duet, hince the desire to run it through the sub 37 and jam with my tr8).breun wrote:If you're playing a note on the Sub 37 and send out that same pitch via MIDI to the Mother 32, then you'd just hear the same thing as if you'd play that same pitch on both synths separately (and send their outputs into a mixer, which is what you're doing in the Sub 37 mixer with the external audio input). Re: Sub 37 + Mother 32
If you set up a polychain I believe you still should be able to plug the audio output of the Mother 32 into the external audio input of the Sub 37. In that case the audio generated by the Mother 32 will also go through the Sub 37 filter and will also be affected by the envelopes on the Sub 37, so there is a difference between going into the Sub 37 mixer or a separate mixer.
