Broken Minimoog

Post by aron » Wed Aug 24, 2016 9:56 pm

OK, I got gifted a Minimoog in unknown condition.
I plugged it in and it made noise (good). It only played ONE note(PITCH) no matter what I did although controls did seem to work for the most part.
All of a sudden the sound cut out and the overload light went on bright.

I checked the fuses in back and the -10VDC fuse is blown (checked with meter).
I assume there's a problem with the power supply.

I will recap the power supply board shortly, but I also read that possibly the -10VDC fuse should be 1/2 AMP instead of 1/4 amp. The serial number is 64xx (6400s).
Any other ideas other than recapping power supply to start?

Will check J-wires on keyboard just in case a J wire is also stuck - making the keyboard always play one note.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Umm, good luck getting more than one note at a time. 8) You do realize don't you, that the Minimoog is a monosynth? Only a single key-press at time will trigger a tone from the oscillators.

Good luck with the fuses/power supply.

Good one. Yeah I meant ONE PITCH no matter what I did. My mistake.

Already recapped the mini - redid the power supply boards and she fires up fine. In fact, everything is good except for the cinch jones connector (6 pin) and the bushings.
The inside is CLEAN!
I am considering changing the cinch jones to molex or something (another thread posted on this).

Ah... makes sense. Yeah, that'd be a problem alright...

When I first read your post I thought it might've been a replay of the following (funny conversation between Rick Wakeman and Bob Moog about Wakeman's first Minimoog)...
