pitch wheel not returning to exact center
pitch wheel not returning to exact center
Hi all,
since a couple of weeks the pitch wheel of my SUB37 doesn't return to exact center everytime I used it. It is a physical problem: after bending it's often just a tad to the upside, making everything sharp. Is this a known problem and is there a simple fix I could maybe do myself?
I've got my SUB37 for 1,5 years now, so I guess having it fixed by a service center would not be covered by my warranty and thus paying...
Thanks for any tips

Hey, welcome to the forum!
Not sure about the Sub37, but the Little Phatty calibration routine deals with wheels too

Re: pitch wheel not returning to exact center
Hey Stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive,
I'm afraid it really is not a software problem but a mere physical one with the wheel itself: I can feel that it hasn't returned to the centre after handling it. If gently push it downward while watching a tuner pedal and feeling it sink into the right center position it is al ok. But I can not be doing this everytime I play a riff that needs pitch sweeping! I think the spring or the whole wheel will need replacing. Or am I wrong? I just think that after 1,5 year using it every couple of weeks and always being really careful with it this shouldn't be broken yet...

Re: pitch wheel not returning to exact center
Well, I am pretty disappointed that it is defective and above all right after my warranty has ended. I have some other Moog products (all Moogerfoogers, some Minifoogers, ...) and the built quality seems good.
I found links to parts for replacing the whole Wheels section, but ordering that would set me back about $100. I think it is sad that it broke down this quickly...

Re: pitch wheel not returning to exact center
It could be gunked up after 1,5 years. There is a 2mm gap each side of the pitch wheel where detritus can drop inside.
Just take the 6 x screws off the left-side wood block and carefully tweeze/cotton bud around the centre area.
You wont void warranty after 1,5 years.

...or contact Moog support and explain your situation. They might help you

Re: pitch wheel not returning to exact center
Opened up the synth and got the LHC out and took it apart. Turns out the nut holding the pitch wheel on the pot meter was really loose. I tightened it but also noticed that the spring tends to move to the side, making the spring ends move diagonally to the other side of the horizontal cottoncovered thingie, giving them extra space since there it is a little less wide.
Moved it back into place, but I don't know how to prevent them from going to the side again in time... Hope it lasts a while.
Solved my problem except for a few sounds that still persistently were out of tune. Very strange. Maybe because of the handling? I recalibrated the pots twice and that seemed to solve the problem.
Fingers crossed and thanks for the tips!

Re: pitch wheel not returning to exact center
The sounds still out of tune may be those with a wide pitch bend range. Check in the advanced program settings.
