Brand new Mother 32 - is it faulty?

Post by SeenFromSpace » Thu May 19, 2016 6:15 pm

Nightmares getting it into Setup Mode. It will ONLY enter this mode after a power cycle. After the 40th try at getting into Setup Mode, I did manage to configure the Assign output.

Now trying to get it to talk to my DSI Pro 2. I can't get into Setup Mode to change the MIDI channel. At least I may be in Setup, but the next action doesn't seem to take effect. I press the step number corresponding to the channel I want, but it plays that note instead. I thought I was in Setup!!! And anyway it doesn't respond even to the default of Ch1. The MIDI LED on the panel has never been seen to light up, no matter what. Tried 3 MIDI leads without success.

I want to clock the sequencer from the Pro 2's sequencer, and I've failed with both MIDI and patching Gate out from the Pro 2 into the tempo jack. I can't be sure I've configured the tempo jack properly because the multiple button presses and multiple flashing LEDs are all sublimely ambiguous. What's so wrong and uncool about an LCD screen??

Would be grateful for any advice.

The order in which you press the buttons is important.

I had a similar problem. The manual isn't exactly clear. Try this...

Press...

(SHIFT) then RESET then SET END then STEP 8 In that order.

Hold each button down until the sequence is complete.

Don't try pressing all the buttons at the same time, it won't work. If you release any button before the sequence is complete, it won't work.

I haven't tried the Setup Mode yet, but AFAIK the reason there isn't an LCD screen is that it would've raised the price.

Regarding the order of the buttons, that makes total sense. In the Sub Phatty you don't have to press them simultaneously either...
