New noob sub 37 question: which cable? usb cable?

Post by tendingtropic » Sat Dec 19, 2015 11:12 am

Hey my new moog friends, I'm a proud sub 37 owner since today, couldnt be happier.

2 noob questions:

First of all, whats the advantage of connecting the moog to a DAW using the usb cable instead of a midi cable?

Secondly: which cable would you advise to connect the moog audio out port to my external audio device/sound card? a simple jack to mono jack 'guitar' cable? or something else?

Thank you!!

USB will be faster when transferring large amounts of data so that would be a benefit when saving and restoring entire banks. Other than that I personally don't see any advantage of one over the other. I use MIDI DIN.

Any decent TS cable can be used for audio.

The benefits of USB also include:

More readily available, less expensive cables. USB cables can be purchased almost anywhere, in a variety of lengths. Midi cables are only avalaible at "music stores".

USB offers two-way communication. When the editor is released, that two way communication will be necessary for full functionality. To get that with midi cables, you'll need two. And that eliminates the out port going to something else.

My suggestion is USB from computer to sub37. Then if you have something like a 104m, go midi out of the sub into that.
