ever buy from island/crazy cases? (and/or other case ideas?)
ever buy from island/crazy cases? (and/or other case ideas?)
i'm looking for a hard case for a moog source and this is about the only option i've come across (short of dropping $350 on a custom case)
here's their ebay store:
http://stores.ebay.com/CrazyCaseStore
cheap ata-style cases, available with or without recessed hardware.
decent feedback, expensive shipping and a relatively long wait time.
any experiences with them?

i bougth one of these cheap 49.99 ebay cases. from a similar company. its a decent case. but i feel like it's EXACTLY the size of the source... and they cut it really close with the height inside, so im afriad the dial knob is getting sort of crushed when it gets bumped around. they also put the foam on the bottom (where the source sits) which is silly because it doesnt need padding there. it needs padding on the synths face. so i basically use the case upside down, which sucks when i occasionally forget, and open the thing up upside down.
you can find very specificly-sized cases. so rather than go with the one listed for the source, i would recommend meausuring the source. then giving yourself a little extra all around so you can add YOUR OWN foam inside. the foam they give is like 1/4 inch thick and in mine was just on the bottom. very weak stuff. they have cases for every size synth out there so just find a size that suits the source with a little extra room.

i also found an old "american tourister" suitcase at a thrift store for $7 dollars. i bought a sheet of foam padding from a home store and built my own custom case for my MG-1. materials cost like 20 bucks to make and its INDESTRUCTABLE. i cut the foam to mold to the synth perfectly
i couldnt find a suitcase big enough for the source, but this is a great idea for a rogue/mg-1 maybe even prodigy sized synth

Hello,
I've dealt with nycases twice and the second time was a disaster (and the last time). If theres any miscommunication with them, you will usually come out on the short end.
They're located on Long Island and wouldn't allow a direct pick-up (I wanted to see the quality of the cases before 'clicking the mouse').
If your synth has key overhang (like some Arps etc.) and you don't specify
the measuresments for them, the case you get won't fit (even though they
advertise the case being for that specific model).
Once I got the product, no return no exchange. Evidently, others had problems with them also. Your risk to take.

LWG

I used an nycase back when I had a Nord Electro. I gigged with it regularly (3 or 4 times a month) and always thought it worked great. Even got a lot of compliments about it. Although, I wouldn't recomend it if you were going to do some heavy touring, its too lite-duty. Perfect for a gig here an there, though.
It was this brown-colored faux alligator skin, which I always though was really cool

thanks for the info, everyone. yes, it does seem to be nycases under a different name. i think i'll avoid them and keep my eyes open for used cases.
just seems that every other stock key case on the market starts at 40" long. that may work out well because if i cut some custom foam, i could fit the source and a couple of moogerfoogers in one of those.
thanks!
