Tempo sync envelopes on sub phatty?
Tempo sync envelopes on sub phatty?
The sub phatty has a pretty cool feature that allows the filter and amp envelopes to loop.By messing with the decay, release etc its possible to make rhythmic patterns.Just wondering if it is possible to actually tempo sync this via midi to the bpm in my daw. While its possible with the LFO,I was nearly certain it wasnt possible with the envelopes until about 2 days ago.I was messing about on a track and managed to get it perfectly in time. Now I may have managed to fluke it just by turning the knobs at exactly the right moment. But It seemed to work every time i pressed stop/play on the track too.Thing is the next day when i opened up the track it wasnt syncing at all.Ive had a lot of trouble with the vst editor so maybe its just gone crazy again and syncing the envelopes is possible.Does anyone know if this is possible as I really like the snappy sound and prefer it to using the LFO for certain things.Cheers

Hi diddly,
I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but... the Sub 37 has a dedicated button called SYNC for both the Filter EG and Amp EG. I'm pointing this out, not to make you envious, but to show you ways that you might simulate such a feature.
When a Sub 37's EG SYNC button is lit, that EG is re-triggered at a unit of the beat specified in the PRESET EDIT Mode via parameters called FILTER EG CLOCK DIV and AMP EG CLOCK DIV.
But, the EG times (Attack, Decay, Release) are not modulated to create synchronicity, it's just that the EG is restarted on the specified unit of the beat, regardless of whether the envelope has finished or not. (In some ways it's kinda' like OSC SYNC, where the Slave OSC restarts regardless of where it is in its cycle.)
In fact, the EG SYNC feature works better when the EG LOOP button is dark because, EG loops that cycle faster than the selected EG CLOCK DIV will get an extra retriggering (or more) each time.
So... You might want to consider using an external CV Gate trigger that's pulsing at a division of your master clock, or simply send repeated MIDI Note Ons at a division of your master clock. Yet another choice would be to have an external LFO (locked to MIDI Clock) that's feeding CV to the FILTER CV INPUT and/or VOL CV INPUT. And yet another choice would be to create a MIDI CC track that's moving the Filter Cutoff (via CC# 19) and/or the Output Level (via CC# 7) in an LFO-like shape.
In all those cases, you'll have perfect syncronicity that will stay locked even if your change tempos.
The beauty of these method is that you don't need to micro-manage your EG times to get a precise timing. Instead, you can use the EG parameters to sculpt the shape you want without worrying if the end result will be absolutely in time rhythmically.

I think what Dan has just explained can also apply to the Sub Phatty

Please read my first sentence more carefully and you will see that my post is about how to get a Sub Phatty to "simulate" what the Sub 37 can do:stiiiiiiive wrote:I think what Dan has just explained can also apply to the Sub Phatty
