MIDI Issue: Continuous CCs not working in Ableton

Post by bt2513 » Tue Jun 16, 2015 11:14 pm

Hi all,

I hope this hasn't already been discussed but I'm having an issue with sending parameter changes to the Sub37.

I have an rack device dedicated to the Sub37 in Ableton and have assigned the Macro controllers to various things on the Sub37 panel. The issue is that the changes are not processed by the Sub37 in real time - they are processed after all CC messages have stopped.

For instance, I rotate the Macro for filter cutoff and instead of gradually increasing the cutoff frequency, the Sub37 exhibits no changes until I stop rotating the knob. Up stopping the rotation, the Sub37 accepts the final CC value and immediately alters the cutoff frequency to that point... not very useful. What am I doing wrong or is this a bug?

FWIW, I've tested this same procedure on my Minitaur and the MT responds with graduated control as it should. Seems to be isolated just to the Sub37.

I'm taking a stab in the dark here, but...

This behavior feels like System Exclusive messages are also being transmitted.

One of MIDI's "rules" is that nothing can interrupt a SysEx message until the End Of SysEx message is sent.

See if you can use MIDI Monitor (Mac) or MIDI Ox (PC) to see if this is the case.

My other guess is that it might have something to do with Running Status either being sent, or interpreted, incorrectly.

Hmmm - I'll check this when I get home. I suppose an easy way to tell would be to tell the Sub37 to stop receiving Sysex messages. However, the Minitaur worked with default settings right away.
