Sub 37: retrigger Arp/Seq on key press?

Post by benbravo » Wed Apr 01, 2015 3:47 pm

Hi there,

Just got a sub 37, fantastic instrument, enjoying it a lot !! :)) A lot more aggressive and edgy than the voyager, which I also love but find a bit too gentle and smooth for my playing style, especially in the lower register.

I am looking for a way to retrigger the clock of the arp/seq on keypress (in the way of the mod busses lfos)...?? If I am just a little late or early, it waits until the next beat to start playing the phrase, which is not always desirable (for e.g. when used as an rhythmical effect on melodies you actually play). Is there a way to do that?

Cheers

I assume you use the sync function from the arpeggiator (led is lit)?

Thanks for your answer Toine. Sync button will sync the rate to MIDI clock or tap tempo, which is good but doesn't really help here. The problem is, with lower arp rates, if you don't play exactly on the beat, you get no sound until the next beat comes. I'd like to have the arp clock reset on first keypress. I've tried a few things but came to the conclusion that there are no way to do it, unfortunately... One way I can think of would be to be able to sync the ARP clock to one of the LFO's rate which can be restarted on keypress.

Oh alright, I found it! This is a global setting. I was looking into preset -> arp options. But instead go to: Global -> Seq options -> Keyb reset ON

Works for both sequencer and arpeggiator. Having this as a per preset parameter would be nice though.

Hi benbravo,

Glad you found it. Two points of clarification:

1) It will only work if the ARP/SEQ is not currently running.
In other words it only works for the very first note that starts the ARP/SEQ. After that first time, new notes will only start on a beat.

2) Starting with Firmware 1.1 the parameter will now be called: PHASE RESET, but it will still be in GLOBAL MENU / SEQ OPTIONS.

Thanks DemonDan,

Can't wait for firmware 1.1, should have been out for a while now... any idea when it will finally be released?

er, yes, it should have been out already. :? We are putting the final touches on an automated firmware update utility, which should be ready literally any day now (well, probably not this literal day, but I am optimistic for the near future). We decided that the old Sub37 update process was too difficult and we would not release another update until the process was more friendly and easy to complete. Of course we had hoped to be finished with this process sooner than now, but truly it should not be much longer. :)

cheers,

Amos

I'm happy to wait for the new update process. Although I never had a problem before, the old process always had me on the edge hoping I didn't end up with a bricked machine.

Still running v1.03 that came with my machine because I was sacred to 'brick' the Sub37. I know... I know...
