Pop-Punk Synth Tone

Post by aaron6393 » Thu Dec 18, 2014 9:30 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to achieve a tone similar to the one that the synth player for Motion City Soundtrack uses. I don't have much experience with synths; The Little Phatty is my first one. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Here's an example of the sound - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iB8FPrauFw

I can only hear guitars except for maybe the baseline could be synth? Which would be very similar to the 28 29 or 30 Taurus presets in the little phatty

Thanks for replying. It's a little more evident in this song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbti910 ... k7OZY6FGfk

I created something sort of similar using two saw waves spaced two octaves apart with the filter wide open, but it just sounds a little dull. I'll just keep playing around with the settings and hopefully I'll be able to nail it.

Try two pulse waves spread an octave with the filter rolled off a bit. the main part of that sound is adding some Portamento. to get that sliding around happy tone. :)

Alternately try a Saw on the lower tuned osc. a decent amount of portamento is really key to nailing that sound.
