SUB 37 - synching to midi clock

Post by salo » Sat Nov 08, 2014 5:00 pm

Brand new SUB 37 finally came in!!!
I'm having issues synching up my SUB 37 to an external midi clock.
Right now I have my Prophet 12 set as master midi clock and running into the SUB 37 (using the 5 pin connector), from there I hit and hold the SYNC button on the arpeggiator panel on the SUB 37 and it lights up and stays lit. But changing the BPM on the Prophet doesn't have any affect on the arpeggiator rate. Here's the settings I have on the MIDI MENU:

IN PORTS: DIN
OUT PORTS: DIN
ECHO DIN IN: DIN
ECHO USB IN: OFF
IN CHANNEL: 1
OUT CHANNEL: 1
SEND PGM CHANGE: ON
RCV PGM CHANGE: OFF

On the Prophet 12 I have it set to clock master and sending on channel 1.
The Prophet 12 goes out to the SUB 37 and from there out to my Tempest, which the Tempest does receive the correct BPM and changes as I change the BPM on the Prophet 12, so it seems to be sending the midi clock ok. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Have you checked your OS of the Sub 37?

If the OS version is 1.0.3, you should consider an upgrade to 1.0.4. After the OS upgrade the synchronisation of the Sub 37 to external gear should be better.

You can check the OS on the last page of the "Globals" menu ...

And don't forget to hit the "Sync" button in the ARP section

I'm also having problems with clock. I'm sending from Ableton Live.. which, in truth, has always been shakey, but the 37 is wildy off. I updated the firmware to 1.04 and it's still drifting. I tried both USB sync and MIDI DIN sync.

Does the thing just not sync with others?

Plz advise thanks.

I'm not sure, but must one set Local Control to off when syncing with external DAW?

I'm having similar trouble. Clocking to Ableton Live via USB

1 Arp Sync is getting confused and drops out
2 Stuck notes
3 Sound in the patch drops.

I was able to get the sound back after rebooting and turning off the arp sync.

The midi clock seems a little shaky with the arp -- the lfo's seem ok, but occasionally tweak out.

No, there is no need to set a synth "local-off", if only syncing to a master clock (other synth or sequencer or DAW) is needed.

But if you are about to record with an external sequencer or DAW the performance on your synth, setting the "local-off" is making sense or better, should allways be done. It simply prevents that the synth creates sound and is triggered by the same midi simultaneously that the sequencer might return to control the synth. Such a setup often leads to midi problems and generates a kind of unwanted sound doulbling.

How about this:

- Menu: GLOBAL-LOCAL-CONTROL
- Parameter: ALL:OFF
