Tortoise is a bore...
The Locust has the most insane use of the MF-102. It is almost the guitar sound of that band.

I used to be into the grindy/spazzy stuff, so I did appreciate the locust, but now I tend to prefer more spacey bands, or at least proggy. I do the whole math/space rock thing, so getting the ring mod was definitely a good thing for me.

The locust is awesome. i saw them earlier this year opening for Fantomas, wow what an amazing show. just an incredibly thick wall of sound. the keyboard guy had a gigantic wall of a modular synth behind the band. anyone know what kinda modular he uses? i saw a moog keyboard dunno what kind though.
i didn't know the guitarist used the ring mod
