Voyager Knobs Creaking/Clicking

Hi all,

I fired up my Voyager this evening as I have for so many evenings past, yet noticed a strange clicking/creaking noise coming from the synth whenever I would turn any of the knobs. It's a 'tick' that sounds quite like a small socket wrench being wound and It's driving me crazy.

I tried to record a track with live knob-turning and, lo and behold, the tick was still present in the audio as plain as day. I'm quite puzzled as to what could be causing this. Has anyone had a similar issue? I've been playing this Voyager for well over a year now and haven't noticed this happening at all until now. I'm running system version 3.5 on a select series. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Andy Hughes here from the Moog Tech Lab. I have never heard of an issue quite like that which you describe, but if this "click" is in the audio path it may be that there is an issue with the digital scanning of the pots leaking noise into the audio path, or possibly an issue with the grounding causing a pop when the pots are at the zero volt position.

Either way, I do suspect that it is a hardware issue and it will need a little TLC from one of our technicians.

Thanks for your reply. I believe we've talked in the past regarding an envelope issue with my Voyager, which resulted in a complete replacement of the board. After reading your suspected diagnoses I would guess that it is an issue surrounding the digital scanning of the pots. The frequency of the ticks is dependent upon how fast I adjust any of the parameters. Anywho, I'll shoot you an email and get the repair process rolling again.
