Bobby Bilan of "The Guess Who"

Post by Val Enright » Sun Dec 04, 2005 3:11 pm

Greetings-I hope I'm sending this to the proper people-Linda Pritchard or Steven M. Martin or ??
Anyway, I saw the band "The Guess Who" at Harborfest in Oswego, NY back in July, 2005, & again yesterday at The Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. The band has always been one of my favorites and all the performers always put on a Superb! show. The 'topping of the cake' goes to Bobby Bilan with his performance (especially of The National Anthemn) on the theremin! It 'blew everyone away' at both shows. I got to speak to Bobby yesterday regarding that instrument. I wanted some info about it, as I had never seen it before (and I have ushered for the (Syracuse) symphonies, operas, concerts, etc. for over 20 yrs), and wondered why. Bobby gave me some of the history on it and said he played it at the Canadian opening of "An Electric Odyssey" for Orion Pictures. Bobby also said he played the theremin with the Winnipeg Symphony New Music Fest in 2000. I told him I thought the theremin should be integrated in all the symphonies, or at least as a special performance. I also told him he should play "The National Anthemn" on it at the Superbowl and other big sporting events in both the U.S. and Canada.
