Hi all -
I purchased a brand new Voyager back in Nov of 2012 and have probably played it a total of 20 times. I took it out on a live gig ONCE in 2013 (I "retired" from music and performing about 25 years ago) but for the most part, it's been sitting in my climate-controlled basement studio since. Just recently however, I brought it up to set up in another studio room (and which is out of the sun) and it was playing fine for several days.
Just today though, I turned it on— and no sound. I went through the usual troubleshooting steps (amp, cables, volume knob, etc.) and even tried plugging in some headphones—and NOTHING. I have on many occasions come into these forums to read other's experiences and have noticed quite a few Voyager owners complaining of sudden defects or other problems through no fault of their own, and well, I guess my number came up.
I'll be honest, for a machine as pricey as a Voyager you'd expect better workmanship and parts. I'm also not looking forward to having to pack this thing up for $ervicing. I have quite a few old analog boards from Roland, Korg, and Yamaha, that are STILL functioning after 30+ years so this is pretty discouraging.
So before I ask for a RMA, I'm hoping some of you might be able to offer some advice?
Thanks so much.

Do you have any MIDI cables plugged into it? You might have sent a Volume Off command. There are a number of other possibilities that others on this list might help you troubleshoot. First thing is to open up the back and make sure all ribbon cables are seated well.
Otherwise, I'd contact Moog service department before anything else. They have helped me troubleshoot and fix things without ever having to send them in.
Hang in there...

I understand that it's frustrating when an expensive piece of kit goes tits up. Know that Moog Music is one of the most responsive and consumer oriented companies in the entire music world. They don't build crap, they just build analog with all it's pros and cons. I'm not sure what you mean by 'expecting better workmanship'... Have you ever seen the inside of your Voyager? It's an incredibly clean build. It doesn't matter if it's through-hole or SMT, the build quality is very high.I'll be honest, for a machine as pricey as a Voyager you'd expect better workmanship and parts.

+1 with all that Vsyevolod wrote ! Especially about Moog's excellent technical/customer support service. Contact Andy about it, and see what he says...?
BTW, I'm curious, does the display and LFO light power on, or is the synth completely dead ?
And as for stuff from other companies, I've had a Roland JX10 fail on me (defective fluorescent display), a Korg Polysix (leaking lithium battery), and a Novation Nova tabletop (DSP failure), too...

The lit panel is fine. However, and I'm not sure if this is related, but I've noticed a distinct, high-pitched "whine" sound whenever my hand is near both the light dimmer knob and the master volume knob. When I pull away, the noise goes away.

Ok, I spoke with a very helpful cat named Nick and after stepping through some troubleshooting, it was determined that the analog board is toast.
So I'll be packing this up for its ride back to NC.
And yes, I do retract my comment about the workmanship of these machines——they are built like tanks. And also realizing that sometimes the components/electronics they use are out of their span of control.
Thanks for your replies!
