New Voyager EB owner here - just sayin hello!

Post by JaseFOS » Thu Aug 14, 2014 2:51 am

Howdy Voyager Crew,

Just thought I'd say hello and introduce myself here!

My very kind friends all pitched in and funded buying me a Moog Voyager Electric Blue for my 40th birthday! Just picked it up a few days ago and loving every minute I spend with it. Since the late 80s I've been building up a largish (25+) collection of hardware synths (vintage through to modern, analogues and digitals) so the Voyager will be in good company.

Looking forward to developing a more advanced VST/AU integration panel for CTRLR which gets deeper into the menu-based parameter settings than the existing one created by Atom (although it's nice to have that as a starting point). Hoping someone can help me find the SysEx settings for remote editing aspects the menu based parameters (Trigger Modes, Glide modes, etc, etc) since I couldn't find that in the manual. With these extra parameters incorporated into the panel. I'll be able to throw snapshots at the Voyager from my DAW projects and have full recall without relying on memory locations (it's how I prefer to roll with all my hardware synths). I'll hang out here on the forum for a while first to see if I can find this info out autonomously.

Cheers from Australia with Love!

Welcome!

Remote front panel editing is via MIDI CC but I do not know about remote editing of menu parameters. The PDF Owners manual on the MM website lists them starting page 76.

You have very good friends.

I also have built up a collection since the mid 80s. You never have enough gear
Gear list: '04 Saturn Ion, John Deere X300 tractor, ganged set of seven reel mowers for 3 acres of lawn, herd of sheep for backup lawn mowers, two tiger cats for mouse population control Oh you meant MUSIC gear Oops I hit the 255 character limi

Hello and welcome !

Here you'll find people who have current Moog gear, as well as folks like me who have very old Moog gear. We all share one thing: we love the Moog sound ! :D

And you're very lucky indeed to have such good friends !
Enjoy your fantastic Voyager !

Cheers !

First I have to congratulate you having such friends! And of course a welcome to the Voyager family. I also have an EB and love it when it goes dark and I can turn it in to a warm bass pounding spaceship. Tonight I'm bringing it and it's three ducklings (Moogerfoogers) to a gig. Such a pleasure playing and tweaking!

Thanks for the tip - doing that now.

When changing between the glide mode states I see the following data

Would I be right to assume that the data for the whole voice is being send with each change of the Glide Mode parameter in the Advanced panel of the editor?

I would love to know the precise SysEx to edit only one parameter directly (otherwise the above messsage would just knock out the settings of my sound).

Cheers!

I see. All sysex messages seem to be this large, so moving certain parameters can't be done in realtime without hiccups.

The only way to know if a smaller sysex message can be used to move those parameters which don't have a CC, is to ask Moog directly. If this depends on its hardware, then we're doomed. But, if this can be done with a firmware/software upgrade, or those messages can be simplified, then we might be able to use those parameters live.

Guess we'll have to ask...

I had an intelligent suggestion from one of my buddies .... sweep through all CCs and watch the parameter on the front panel to see which one causes it to change.

I'll give that a shot however it would be better to just know what the right messages are to send from Moog themselves!

Will report back here with any findings.

Cheers
