Voyager pitch wheel tuning problem (not the usual one?)

Post by Puddin » Mon Jul 14, 2014 3:27 am

Hi guys,

I've just bought a voyager second hand and have been loving the sound, however I've encountered a problem with the pitch bend " up" amount affecting the tuning of the synth. The synth's base pitch increases and gets more and more out of tune the higher amount you select (even with the pitch wheel centered at zero).

After searching everywhere I thought I'd found the solution with the re-calibrating the pot under the LHC. Even though in the software version screen mine says it is at zero, I thought I'd give it a go anyway. But alas, it didn't work. Exact same issue. Could it be I need to reinstall the OS?

Btw it's a PE, software 3.5...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

George

So, what you are saying is, with the pitch wheel centered and not touching it, the pitch goes high when you adjust the amount in the menuing? Does this do it on all patches? Sounds like pot mapping of bend amount to a MOD buss.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yep, it happens on all patches and if I init. parameters. It's really weird. It only happens with the pitch up amount too, the pitch down amount is fine...

Wouldn't pot mapping only affect it if I was actually physically moving a performance control though?

Hi guys,

So I opened up the Voyager because it needs a general tune anyway and I've found two pretty suspect looking repair jobs. I've attached some photos. The first is a trim pot that they've soldered to one of the resistors to attenuate it I'm guessing? and the second is a green wire running between two resistors. Could this be causing the problem?

The guy I bought it off said he had to return it (to an authorized repair shop here in Melbourne) after he got it, but that it's worked perfectly since. Surely he would have known about this problem.

Those mods look like the filter glide mod. Shouldn't cause your symptoms.

Thanks again... that's a bit of a relief. Sorry, I don't know much about these things... hoping it's a software issue and not a hardware one.
