Sub Phatty or Minitaur for bass?

Post by andreasroman » Sun Jun 29, 2014 3:05 pm

Hello. This is my first post here. I own a Sub Phatty and am looking for something specific for bass. It's not hard to make the Sub sound like low-end thunder, but I'm after a unit dedicated to bass, and that offers something the Sub doesn't.

Does the Minitaur offer sonic ranges in the low end that makes it better as a bass synth? Or is it overkill to get one, if I already own a Sub Phatty?

Thanks,
Andreas

I've had both. In my experience the Sub offers many more opportunities to make the sound more nuanced, or in the case of bass (in my opinion) vague. So it depends what you mean by bass. Of the many features that are there on the Sub and not the Minitaur, the pulse width is the one I miss the most when trying to make the brown sound. A light touch on the distortion was nice too. That said, depending upon how to plan to use it, the Minitaur has got the power to weight advantage and personally, I like the sound of how the filter rezzes better based on my sample size of one of each.

Thanks. I've basically decided to not buy a Minitaur now and actually sell my Sub Phatty, after I read that the Sub37 will contain a 64-step sequencer. My money goes to that one instead.
